Grading scale

Unit tests/Final exam                                            40%

Quizzes                                                                      30%

Homework                                                                15%

Participation                                                             15%

Tests/Quizzes

You will have vocabulary quizzes and grammar quizzes at the end of each lesson.  Unit tests are given at the end of each unit.  Only excused absences allow you to makeup tests and quizzes.  If you are absent on the day of a test or quiz, you are responsible for making it up.  You have 1 week from the day the test/quiz was given to make it up or you will receive a zero.  Tuesday, at lunch, is makeup day.  If you cannot come in on Tuesday, please let me know as soon as possible to schedule another day.

Retakes – You are allowed to retake one test or quiz every grading period if you receive a C or lower.   You have one week to retake that test or quiz.

Homework

Homework is assigned 2-3 times a week.  Homework is due at the beginning of class.  Please do your homework outside of class and not during class.  No late work will be accepted unless you have an excused absence.

Participation

Your participation grade is based on the following – attendance, tardiness, behavior, classroom notes and being prepared for class.  Please make sure your textbook is covered at all times.

Tardy Policy

Please refer to the tardy policy in the RBV Handbook.

Behavior/Classroom Rules

  • Demonstrate courtesy and respect at all times.
  • No hats, sunglasses, cell phones, I pods in class.
  • Please avoid the following in class – eating, drinking (except for water), chewing gum and personal grooming.
  • Do not read or write notes to friends in class.
  • Follow the rules in the student handbook
  • Follow the RBV character statement ~

Good Character on and off campus.

Trustworthy

Respect

Responsibility to themselves and others.

Fair and Caring in all their actions

Model appropriate Citizenship.

Hall Passes

Every six weeks you will receive 3 hall passes.  You need these passes to use the restroom or go to your locker.  Hall passes cannot be used the first 15 minutes of class or the last fifteen minutes of class.  Only three passes may be used during a six week period.  You may also use 2 hall passes for one homework assignment every six weeks.

Cheating

I have a zero tolerance policy on cheating.  This includes copying someone’s homework, using a translator online, copying or using a “cheat sheet” during a test or quiz.  If you are caught cheating, you automatically receive a zero.

How to succeed in Spanish class

  • Take notes, ask questions, participate in class
  • Study vocabulary at least 10 minutes a night even if you are not having a quiz the next day.
  • Ask for help when needed – I am available for tutoring Tuesday at lunch.
  • Practice speaking Spanish with a native speaker

Extra credit opportunities

There are several ways to earn some extra credit in my class.

j Submit a current event article from a newspaper or magazine.  The article must be about a Spanish speaking country or a person from there. You also need to write a summary (minimum 10 sentences) about the article. Good for one homework pass & a 3 point quiz pass   (can be done one time a month)

Some examples of Spanish speaking countries are – Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Chile, Cuba.

k  There will be other opportunities in class to earn extra credit through games, singing, and attending cultural events.
