Classroom rules/grading policies

Grading scale

Tests/Quizzes/Compositions/Orals                    65%

Final Exam                                                               10%

Participation                                                             10%

Homework                                                                15%

Tests/Quizzes

Tests are given at the end of each lesson.  In addition, there will be quizzes on vocabulary, modismos, stories, etc.  Only excused absences allow you to makeup tests and quizzes.  If you are absent on the day of a test or quiz, you are responsible for making it up.  You have 1 week from the day the test/quiz was given to make it up or you will receive a zero.  Thursdays are makeup days.

Homework

Homework is assigned 3-4 times a week.  Homework is due at the beginning of class.  Please write out sentences for homework.  For paragraphs, you can just write the answers.  Please do your homework outside of class and not during class.  No late work will be accepted unless you have an excused absence.

Participation

Your participation grade is based on the following – attendance, tardiness, behavior, classroom notes and being prepared for class.  Please make sure your textbook is covered at all times.

Tardy Policy

Please refer to the tardy policy in the RBV Handbook.

Behavior/Classroom Rules

  • Demonstrate courtesy and respect at all times.
  • No hats, sunglasses, cell phones, Ipods or pagers in class.
  • Please avoid the following in class – eating, drinking (except for water), chewing gum and personal grooming.
  • Do not read or write notes to friends in class.
  • Follow the rules in the student handbook and remember the RBV character statement ~ Students of Rancho Buena Vista High School will demonstrate Good Character on and off campus.  Each student is Trustworthy and consistently shows Respect and Responsibility to themselves and others.  They are Fair and Caring in all their actions and model appropriate Citizenship.

Hall Passes

Every six weeks you will receive 3 hall passes.  You need these passes to use the restroom or go to your locker.  Hall passes cannot be used the first 15 minutes of class or the last fifteen minutes of class.  Only three passes may be used during a six week period.  You may also use 2 hall passes for one homework assignment every six weeks.

Cheating

I have a zero tolerance policy on cheating.  This includes copying someone’s homework, using a translator online, copying or using a “cheat sheet” during a test or quiz.  If you are caught cheating, you automatically receive a zero.

How to succeed in Spanish class

  • Take notes, ask questions, participate in class
  • Study vocabulary, grammar, modismos, etc.. nightly.
  • Ask for help when needed – I am available for tutoring Thursday at lunch.
  • Practice speaking Spanish with a native speaker
