Welcome to Mrs. Pierson's Fourth Grade Class
I am really looking forward to a great year! We will be doing lots of fun activities. To give you an idea of what we will be learning about at the beginning of the year, just read below.
Math - Each year, we begin by reviewing place value and our addition/subtraction facts. You are welcome to go to the website below and play some math review games located in the math folder of this site.
Writing - At the beginning of the year we focus on learning parts of speech (nouns, verbs, and adjectives) so that we can write even better sentences. We will also be writing paragraphs with topic sentences and supporting details. Finally, we will share some of our writing responses on the class blog site. This has been a very popular activity in previous years.
Computer Lab - In the computer lab this year, we will be creating documents in Word, ComicLife, and PowerPoint! Again, we will write a number of blogs this year. To view our blogs site go to: http://blogs.rockingham.k12.va.us/lpierson/ Virginia History - We start the year by learning about the regions and geography of Virginia. We will then learn about Jamestown and visit it in October! During our geography unit, be ready to get your hands dirty when we create play dough relief maps of the state.
Promethean Board - For a lot of our lessons we use a large Promethean Board. A Promethean Board is an interactive white board that is like a giant computer screen only better. You can write on it with a special pen and move around pictures. They are very similar to Smartboards. Jags - The fourth grade teachers are continuing to implement this neat reward program. Each day students can earn a "jag." Jags can be turned in for rewards, and there are many rewards to choose from! Rewards include being able to chew gum for a day, sitting anywhere you want, and having a pizza lunch outside with a friend.
