Thompson Brooks/Cole, 2006 ISBN 0-534-99723-6 About the AP Physics B Course: The Advance Placement Physics B is an algebra based course in general physics. It is equivalent to introductory algebra based university level physics courses. This course will be covered in three trimesters. The emphasis of the course is understanding the concepts and skills while applying formulae to solve problems. Laboratory work will be a key component of this course to help derive and reinforce key concepts. Grading: Tests: 60% Tests are administered after each unit of material. Tests will consist of multiple choice questions, free response questions, and questions based upon laboratories and activities. Labs: 20% Labs will be both open ended and scripted. Students will be expected to be able to both design their own procedures and follow a given procedure. Students will collect data in class, but will be expected to write up lab reports outside of class. Reports will be kept in a lab notebook. Quizzes: 10% Quizzes may contain questions and/or problems from the homework, old AP exams, the reading, and/or recently discussed material. Quizzes will be given at varying intervals to periodically assess student understanding. Classwork & Homework: 10%
Students who do not take the AP test on Wednesday, May 10th will be required to take a final exam for the course.
