Freshman Year

  • Take challenging courses and develop criticial thinking skills.
  • Study hard and get excellent grades.
  • Strengthen your vocabulary by increasing your reading.
  • Become involved in extra-curricular activities. Choose activites and stick with them for your 4 years of high school.  It is important to show involvement and depth in activites.
  • Discuss your plans for the next four years with your guidance counselor.
  • Research colleges and universities online, by requesting printed resources, or through visits.
  • Research what high school courses colleges require.
  • Keep a record of classes taken, activities, sports, and honors received.  These can be entered in the CFNC high school planner. 
  • Research career possibilities.
  • Begin saving money for college.
