What is the purpose of Student Leadership/ASB? We will study student leadership techniques and theory to better support the students and staff on our campus. This course will provide students with opportunities to learn, practice and perform leadership skills. Students will plan, perform, and evaluate campus wide events throughout the year. I. Goals and Objectives • To learn and perfect leadership skills. • To plan and organize campus wide activities. • To represent the student body at school and within the community. • To uphold and amend the WHHS constitution. • To manage the budget. • To become better leaders. II. HOW WILL I BE GRADED? A. Academic Requirements 20% Leadership 20% Sports tickets sales and attendance 20% Activities 20% Student Store 10% Community Service 10% Organization It's completely up to you how much or how little you achieve in this class. You will be expected to attend all events, and complete all assignments. This is an elective course, if you do not meet the requirements of this course you will be asked to drop the course. If you do not maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher you will be on academic probation. If you fail to raise your GPA to 2.5 by the following progress report you will be dropped from the course. The following is an explanation of all items you will be graded on throughout the semester: • Class assignments - Includes points earned as part of individual assignments, cooperative learning activities and group or individual projects. Be in class! Class assignments and activities will make up a significant amount of the academic grade. • After school obligations- After school activities including but not limited to sporting events, open house, homecoming events, and community service are a requirement of the course. If you are unable to attend these events your grade will be negatively affected. • Participation – As a member of the ASB class you are expected to participate in the course assignments and events. Your participation is part of your grade. Just being there, is not good enough…actively participating “giving all you have” to events and assignments is expected. No excuses! It is your responsibility to contact me if you miss an assignment or an event. If you are unable to attend a required event you must contact me in advance. If you are signed up to work and event it is your responsibility to find a replacement within ASB with my approval. Your grade will be affected if you fail to find a replacement. B. Academic Grading Scale Letter grades are based on the percentages indicated in the chart below: 97% to 100% = A+ 87% to 90% = B+ 77% to 80% = C+ 69% to 65% = D 93% to 97% = A 83% to 87% = B 73% to 77% = C below to 64% = F 90% to 93% = A- 80% to 83% = B- 69% to 73% = C- C. Attendance • Refer to WHHS attendance policies in Student Handbook. D. Conduct / Citizenship Requirements Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. All students will begin a grading period with an "S" grade in conduct and progress accordingly. Grades will be based on your cooperation with the advisor, classmates, administration, school guests, and all district personnel. I expect all students to be completely involved in all classroom activities. Don't be a negative influence. Be gracious and let others learn. What we do in class is important and disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. As members of ASB you are leaders, you must always follow school rules. At all times you shall represent yourself with honor, integrity, and the very BEST that is a West Hills elected student leader. California education code, GUHSD district and site policies, rules and procedures apply to you (and every other student) while on campus as well as off, including going TO and coming FROM a school event. School suspension, for any reason, may result in leaving the ASB class and office without credit and enrolling in a non-credit study hall. Additionally, poor leadership, non-participation in shared classroom responsibilities, or excessive negative or offensive conduct is cause for release from ASB with no credit and no representation on your transcript of the student government class. |
