Teaching Experience

 

            Naturalist at Camp Bloomfield Sixth Grade Class (Febuary to May 2009) This program is headed by Tom Hoegeman and is operated under the Conejo Valley School District.  

-          Teaching two classes a day with a focus on zoology

-          Leading activities at evening camp fires

-          Guiding student hikes through Malibu Canyon and supervising up to thirty students at one time

Head Water Polo Coach for the Varsity and JV squads at Moorpark High (August 21 2006 to November 20 2006)  

-          Creating practice workouts and game plans

-          Create team game roster and conduct teams at game time

-          Communicate with referees, parents, and other coaches

-          Maintain school appropriate behavior at all times

Student Parent Orientation Program, student coordinator (January 9 2006 to August 30 2006) This program is headed by Jill Halvak and ran through the Dean of Students at UC Irvine to orient all incoming freshman to the school and housing situation.

-          I and four other coordinators interviewed over 300 volunteer applicants for 110 open volunteer positions

-          Responsible for the weekly three hour trainings of volunteer staff

-          Scheduling of staff for orientations

-          Coordinating of staff events and staff communications

Volunteer-

            Volunteer Councilor for Camp Laurel (August 2006 to Present), which is a non-profit organization that is focused on children and/or families that are affected by HIV.

-          I am responsible for the safety and emotional well-being of the children in my cabin.

-          Being on time to meals, meeting, and activities with my kids.

-          Proper judgment and camp behavior.

Education-

 

Student at San Diego State’s Single Subject Credential Program (January 2007 to December 2008) At San Diego State I was required, for the part-time credential program, to take a year of prerequisite classes and then student teach for a year while continuing classes in the evenings.    

-          In-class tutoring for a tenth grade basic English class at Point Loma High School

-          Student teacher at Lewis Middle School. Grading, planning, and teaching an eighth grade GATE class

-          Maintain a 3.9 grade point average

-          My Master teacher at Lewis Middle was Ms. Kunzler and can be reached by email at jkunzler@sandi.net

-          Student teaching at Helix High School. Grading, planning, and teaching two tenth grade block classes.

            Graduated from University of California at Irvine with a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature (June 2006)

-          Graduated with a full degree in four years

-          Studied abroad in Rome, Italy, for four months

-          Received on-campus employment through the Dean of Students.

-          Played club rugby for three seasons and received most valuable player award in 2004.
