Description and Purpose:

The Student Advocacy Center (SAC) is an alternative to the Positive Attitude for Success (PAS) program. It is designed to provide more support for the Behavior Resource Specialist (BRS) by assisting students to make more productive choices.  The SAC program provides the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) for students who have behavior difficulties.  Unlike PAS, the students in the SAC Program receive their instruction in a general education classroom or other program.

The SAC students have a BIP.  Should behavior issues arise, the student will be referred to the BRS.  The BRS works with the student to resolve the issue, but if a solution can not be agreed upon, or if it is felt that the student should not return to the classroom, the student will be assigned temporarily to the SAC class for that period or for the remainder of the day.  The SAC teacher provides behavioral support and assists in preparing the student to return to class.

The SAC program can also be used as an alternate or in conjunction to In School Suspension (ISS).  The administrator and BRS will collaborate on the decision.  The student is assisted academically and behaviorally with his/her daily assignments rather than completing a behavior packet that is a part of ISS.

Goals and Objectives:

·        To increase academic skills while developing positive behavior strategies

·        To reduce discipline referrals to the office and to reduce the need for Emergency Action (EA)

·        To lessen students’ possible days out of placement by supporting them in the SAC program

·        To increase appropriate behavior skills in order to remain in the least restrictive environment
