To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children, to earn the approbation of honest critics; to appreciate beauty; to give of one's self, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived--that is to have succeeded.” --Ralph Waldo Emerson

My Vision:

I believe that teaching is a “calling” - a choice resulting in the ability and honor to guide students along their life journey. It is a commitment to affect change, and be changed. The spirit of a teacher encompasses a willingness to sacrifice and be challenged.  It is a life spent in dedication to others—many who you will never forget.

Believing this, I see my purpose as an educator to empower students to become self-sufficient, critical-thinking, seekers of knowledge. I am an advocate for equity among all children, regardless of race, class, gender, etc.  I believe that any child can succeed academically, provided the appropriate accommodations and differentiated instruction.

My teaching has changed greatly over the past few years. I feel that every good teacher, or one who aspires to be, must be open to change for fear of becoming disconnected with the evolution of education. My vision for my future classroom is one in which I can begin to dissolve the barriers between student and teacher, building a learning community where I can ignite and foster independent thinkers, and morally conscious human beings.
