I am originally from the coast of Virginia, but I have lived in Raleigh since 1999. I am married and have one elementary aged son. I enjoy reading, painting, drawing, and shopping.
I earned my BS in Psychology from Christopher Newport University, and my MS in Professional Counseling from Radford University, both in Virginia. I have counseling experience with children at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. I have worked in schools in North Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.
I have therapeutic counseling experience working in both the school and community setting. Additionally, I have experience with counseling curriculum development. While working with at-risk and gifted populations, I have demonstrated a mastery of specific counseling methods and theories through innovative approaches. I have direct experience integrating fun and challenging activities into small group and classroom lessons while maintaining educational soundness and meeting counseling objectives. I am knowledgeable about current educational initiatives and sound counseling practices. I enjoy working with elementary aged children and am excited to be a part of a great team of educators at Wilburn. As a counselor, I help
students when they feel upset, angry, confused, worried, sad, or lonely. When I work with a student, we talk about things that are important to them, and do activities to help build skills and solve problems. Unlike individual teachers who work with a class of students, I have the opportunity to work with all of Wilburn’s wonderful students during classroom guidance sessions. Additionally, I work with many students through small group and individual counseling sessions. I love being a counselor and look forward to meeting everyone in the Wilburn family. By the way, look for the lock and the heart to find me throughout the school.
