Homework:
![]() I feel it is vital for each student to develop a high degree of personal responsibility and accountability for the completion of work in and out of school. You should plan on setting aside at least an hour for homework Monday through Thursday. Reading passages will be a frequent homework assignments as 3rd grade is a TAKS testing year. I strongly encourage your support and assistance with these reading passages.
Homework assignments sent home will be reviewed the next day in class. Late homework is NOT accepted. If a student has an excused absence, they are responsible for the homework assigned during their absence. Each student will have a homework log so that they know exactly what assignments must be completed daily. In addition, I will email the homework log to those parents that send me their email addressess. Homework grades will be taken. I do understand that emergencies occur and if that is the case, please contact me and individual consideration will be taken into account. Grades:
![]() I will be taking at least 3 grades weekly for each subject taught. Two of the grades taken will be classwork/homework grades and the third will be a formative test grade. The test grades will be taken, generally, on Fridays and will cover the objectives taught during the week. Your child will take a reading (comprehension/vocabulary) test every Friday as well as a spelling formative. The other subjects will vary and will be given with advance notice. Some class assignments will be graded simply with a checkmark or a happy face; this means that the assignment was completed on time and well and was not taken as a grade. We do this simply to practice or review an objective. Summative (or 6 weeks tests) will be given during the last week of the 6 week period. These tests count for 30% of your child’s overall average in every subject. Please make sure your child is rested and ready for these tests!
Class Telephone:
I allow students to use the classroom phone when necessary; please let me know if it’s an inconvenience for them to call during the day. Please be aware that I do NOT take calls during classroom instructional time. I turn off the ringer and only if I see the red light on the phone will I answer. If it’s an emergency, please leave a message with the office or send me an email as I check my email at different times throughout the day. IF you leave a voice message, those CANNOT be heard until after 3:20. Please make sure your child knows how he/she will be getting home each day. Do NOT wait until 2:50 to call and change their method of transportation. This is one of the busiest times of the day both in the classroom and in the office. The class phone is for student's use in case of an emergency. *School phone number: 778-4750 my extension 1911
School Supplies: School supplies tend to run out during the year. Students usually need more supplies at the beginning of the 2nd semester. These supplies are important. Please make sure your child comes to class prepared to learn. If you cannot find the necessary supplies, please let me know. I may have extras. |
