Who is Mrs. Lane? A Mock Interview...

Q) How long have you lived in California?
A) Well... which time!? I was actually born and raised in Santa Cruz, which is where I currently live. I went to school in Davis (UCD), where I met my husband freshman year in the dorms. After graduation, we got married. My husband was an Infantry Officer in the US Army, and we ended up stationed in Hawaii for a few years (Schofield Barracks for any Army folks!). After that, we got transferred to Florida, and we were there for 3 years. My husband is now out of the military, and his current job brought us back to CA... we're finally back home!

Q) You teach math, so that must mean you actually like the subject... are you sick or just crazy?
A) Yes, I must admit that I do love the subject! When I was in college I started out as a Biochemistry major, but then I ran out of math classes. I switched to Civil Engineering, but again, I'd taken all of the math I needed and I started taking upper division math classes as my electives. I realized that this was crazy and eventually gave in and changed my major to Applied Mathematics. I've always liked the certainty of the subject- it's either right or wrong and there's no gray area.

Q) So what do you do for fun... go home and do math problems?
A) No!! But I have to admit that I do love to do Sudoku puzzles :). I love anything involving water- swimming, boating, tubing, etc. I like to read and I love to cook when I have time. I also enjoy taking walks with my husband and our 3 year old "son" (the four-legged variety) Dusty (who is, quite possibly, the cutest yellow Labrador on earth... OK, OK, I know I'm biased...)

Q) What are the things in your life that are most important?
A) My faith, my family, my friends, being a good teacher... those are a few. Although, these aren't really "things"...

Q) What's the hardest thing you've ever done in your life?
A) I'd probably have to say sending my husband off to Iraq... that was not a fun year.

Q) What's the best day of your life?
A) The day he came home!! My wedding day was pretty great too :)

Q) OK, some easy ones... chocolate or vanilla?
A) Chocolate.

Q) Dog or cat?
A) Dog! Did I mention my "baby"? See below!

Q) Favorite thing about California?
A) The variety! I love having the beach and the mountains all close.

Q) Favorite movie?
A) Oh boy... that's not easy! Shawshank Redemption, Spaceballs, Hoosiers, all of the Bourne movies... and too many more to mention!

Q) Favorite author?
A) Oh boy... another tough one! Lately I'd have to say Francine Rivers, but I haven't had as much time as I'd like to read lately. I have to throw CS Lewis in there too, though, because I've read "The Chronicles of Narnia" about a million times and I could read them a million more times and still be completely enthralled!
