Welcome NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY TEAM STUDENTS to the 2011-2012 school year!

Helpful Hints for a Successful Sixth Grade Year
Here is a list of helpful hints that the team often finds themselves sharing with parents through the course of the year. We encourage you to be proactive in your child’s education.
* If you notice your child’s grades slipping, contact us. Remember we work with over 65 different students in 4 different subjects. This can translate into 100-150 sets of parents. We do our best to keep a sharp eye on everyone, but we can always use your help with your child.
* Check the homework hotline, web site and agendas daily for information and homework. Hotline: 332-4090 ext 396 Web: http://sites.google.com/site/northeasternrms/home
* If you notice your child always says they’re “done” with homework or that they “did it in school” but the grades you see don’t reflect that, ask them to bring their work home each night to show you. IF they forget, bring them back to school to get it. The building is locked at 4:00 daily, but can be accessed through a knock and having the custodian let you in until 9:00 pm daily.
* Having a hard time getting your child to do homework? Try the following; * Remove the TV from their bedroom * Remove any game systems from their bedroom * Set a specific time to do homework each night * Set a specific zone to work on homework away from distractions * Allow your child to take a short 5-10 minute break in between subjects * Encourage / help your child to pack their book bag before bed to ensure they have everything they need for the next day. * Keep an eye on dates for Progress Reports and Report Cards * Come in once in a while and see what they’ve done with their lockers * Ask to see their completed agenda books each night
We’re here to work with you and your child to make this year successful. We will offer several opportunities at school for your child to practice new skills and show mastery. Homework is important for establishing mastery. Your influence on your child’s education can lead to a successful academic year!
Kindest Regards, The Northeastern University Team
