Preparing for a Test Day

I have reviewed several web sites and books, as well as drew from many years of experience with tests, to put together these tips.

For Parents:

1. Remind your child that the tests are important and they need to listen carefully to the instructions.

2. Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a nutritious breakfast before taking a test.

3. Try to make the morning before the test as pleasant and non-stressful as possible.

4. Get your child to school on time on the day of the test.

5. Remind your child to stay focused and finish the test.

6. Give your child positive messages such as; to relax, to do their best and to keep trying.

For Students:

1. Your first choice is usually correct. Don't change your answer unless you are sure it is wrong.

2. Read all of the answers before you choose one.  Process of Elimination:  Take away the choices that are not correct.

3. If you don't know an answer, make the best guess you can.

4. Stay relaxed, take some deep breaths.

5. Completely erase incorrect answers and any marks outside the bubble on bubble answer sheets.

6. Follow directions and if you have questions ask them before the test begins.

7. Check your answers when you are done.

8. Be aware of key words such as; all, always, never, not & only.

9. Information in some questions may help you with other questions. If you are stuck on a question, skip it and come back to it later.
