Monday, October 5: Journal: Reflect on your CHH experience (or your 7th grade experience so far).  What things stick out in your mind?  What did you learn about yourself?  About someone else?  Assign groups, discuss expectations, and begin nonfiction articles group work. Choose and read first article and begin first questions.  Homework: Work on Book Project - due Friday!
 
Tuesday, October 6: Continuation of nonfiction articles group work.  Complete questions from article 1 (Q1); choose and read article 2 (A2).  Homework: Work on Book Project, due Friday!
 
Wednesday, October 7: Collect Journals.  Continuation of group work.  Complete Q2.  Visit library.  Complete individual student/teacher conferences regarding ISAT and Star Reader scores.  Homework: Work on Book Project - due Friday.
 
Thursday, October 8: Continuation of group work.  Choose and read A3; complete Q3.  Homework: Book Project due tomorrow. 
 
Friday, October 9: Book Project due today.  Take CARS assessment #5 and review.  Homework: 1st Period only - complete "Vivid Verbs" w.s.
 
Tuesday, October 13: Continuation of nonfiction group work.  Homework: Ask your parents about their favorite childhood memory.  Write at least one paragraph to share their memory, graded for sentence fluency, and must be typed.  May write in third person (as a narrator) or in first person (pretend to be your parent and tell the story).  Due Friday. 
 
Wednesday, October 14: Continuation of nonfiction group work. Visit library. Homework: None.
 
Thursday, October 15: Continuation of nonfiction group work.  Homework: None.
 
Friday, October 16:  Complete nonfiction group work.  Begin Study Island unit.  Homework: None. 
 
Monday, October 19: CARS Assessment #6 and review.  Homework: Take third AR quiz.  Reading Log, with signature, due tomorrow. 
 
Tuesday, October 20: Read-aloud of personal narrative from Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul.  Introduction and Power Point presentation on "Making Text Connections" and practice with personal narrative.  Power Point slides packet handed out.  Text Connections poster guidelines and rubric handed out and discussed.  Homework: None. 
 
Wednesday, October 21:  CARS Assessment #7 and review.  Homework: 2nd Period - Vivid Verbs w.s.  3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th Period - holiday paragraph (needs attention-grabbing topic sentence and 3 supporting details). 
 
Thursday, October 22: Visit Library.  Begin Text Connections posters (begin with writing the two required paragraphs)  Homework: Text Connections poster due Monday.. 
 
Friday, October 23:  Peer/teacher edit of rough draft paragraphs for Text Connectios poster project.  Begin writing/typing final paragraphs.  Homework: Poster project due Tuesday.
 
Monday, October 26: CARS Assessment #8.  Type paragraphs for Text Connections poster project.  Homework: Text Connections poster project due tomorrow.

Monday, November 9: Final work day for magazine project (computer lab avail.).  Volunteers chosen to preview and practice parts for Readers' Theater.  Homework: Magazine Project due tomorrow. 
 
Tuesday, November 10: Hand in magazines (will be sent to 8th grade LA class for voting).  Read two passages about explorer Robert Peary.  Answer questions with a partner.  Homework:  Readers' Theater volunteers to practice roles.
 
Wednesday, November 11: Happy Veterans' Day!  Review answers to Robert Peary questions.  Read aloud about explorer Richard Byrd.  Create Venn Diagram to compare/contrast Peary and Byrd.  Turn Venn Diagram into two paragraphs (include attention-grabbing topic sentences!).  Homework: Complete paragraphs.  Practice "Jeremy Goldblatt" parts for tomorrow.   
 
Thursday, November 12: Readers' Theater: "Jeremy Goldblatt Is So Not Moses".  Homework: None. 
 
Friday, November 13: Continuation of Readers' Theater.  Complete Reader's Response (Write story from Candy Andy's POV).  Homework: Finish Reader's Response. 
 
Monday, November 16: Hand in "Candy Andy" posters.  Preview class novel: Belle Prater's Boy.  Read/discuss back cover, characters, setting, genre, and introductory quote.  Define Chapters 1 and 2 vocabulary words.  Homework: Complete defintions. 
 
Tuesday, November 17: Check vocab words for Chapters 1 and 2.  Read aloud of Chapter 1.  Homework: None.
 
Wednesday, November 18: Read aloud of Chapter 2.  Complete Prater/Ball Family Tree.  Visit library.  Homework: Woodrow's Diary - Entry #1 (Chapters 1 and 2). 
 
Thursday, November 19: Read Chapters 3 and 4 in small groups.  Define Chapter 3 and 4 vocab words.  Work on Woodrow's Diary - Entry #2.  Homework: Finish Woodrow's Diary Entiy 2.
 
Friday, November 20: Check Chapters 3 and 4 vocab.  Check Diaries Entires 1 and 2 for completion.  Readers' Response: Write about the day that you would choose to relive if you could only choose one.  Write in first person, working on sentence fluency and sensory details.  Homework: Complete Readers' Response. 
 
Monday, November 23: Hand in Readers' Response from Friday.  Discuss Chapters 3 and 4 together.  Make predictions: What happened to Belle Prater"  Open-notes vocab quiz on Chapters 1 - 4 words.
