First grade has 16 adorable chicks!! Last Tuesday, which was Day 20, we welcomed two female chicks, Justin Peeper and Riley Christine. By the end of the day on Thursday, we had a total of 17 chicks. Since Justin Peeper arrived a day early, she did not make it this past weekend. When she hatched, her legs had not formed properly. Since she was too weak to eat and drink, she died on Sunday. Riley Christine also arrived a day early, so we might lose her also. Her legs also did not form properly. However, we do have 15 healthy, cute, and lively chicks and they have very unique personalities, just like the first graders. The children are enjoying how they cheep all day long, eat and drink all day, and also sit on each other to have fun and stay warm. As you can see from the pictures, they are beautiful reminders of God's creation! This week, the preschoolers, kindergarteners, and first graders will sit in a circle in the POD and watch the chicks in action as they are let loose for awhile. They are already starting to do some flying!! Thank you, parents, for coming to our Hattie play on the 4th. The children are awesome actors and actresses!! This week we are starting our Math unit on money and then we will move on to geometry next week. We will continue to take timed addition drills, as well as practice odd/even numbers, telling time, ordering numbers, etc. It is important that the children continue to practice the skills they have already learned as well as work on new math concepts. We started learning the Glorious Mysteries on Monday. Your child is welcome to bring his/her rosary as we pray the Hail Mary each morning. We have also stated our geography unit. Please quiz your child on how many continents and oceans there are, as well as what continent and country we live in. Our state reports start on Monday!!
