In Math we are learning about ALL the possible ways to make 10. We are practicing the addition facts with a daily 1-minute timed test. The sheet goes home every night so the children can practice the facts in order to get away from using their fingers. There is nothing wrong with using fingers to get a correct answer but doing addition with fingers takes longer.
If you want to help your child you could play a different version of Go Fish called Get Ten.Each child has 5 cards.They take turns asking the other person if they have the number that they need with their card to make10. If they get it they then have a pair. If the other person doesn't have it, then you have to Go Fish. The game is done when all the cards are gone or when you can't make any more tens. |
