READ! READ! READ!

First grade is a year of tremendous growth.  Everyone is excited about learning to read and to read better.  One of the best ways to make sure your child makes progress is to read with them every night for 15-20 minutes!  This can include newspapers, magazines, library books, menus, etc.  You can either read to them, with them by taking turns, or have them read to you.

* Ask your child questions about what they  have read.

* Have your child share the characters and where the story took place.

* Stop during the story and have them predict what they think will happen next.
