| My Philosophy of Education My grandfather used to tell me, “Cassie, if you don’t use it, you’re gonna lose it.” Eventually he passed away from throat cancer, however I will never forget his famous words. I truly believe that education in all forms, is the key to living life to it’s fullest potential. If one doesn’t challenge themselves mentally, physically and emotionally to learn new things, then life will pass one by. That is why I chose to become a teacher. I want to be an educator of life by being a student of life. The idea of being a teacher that stands in front of a group of students and teaches them arithmetic or mathematics and then calls it a day is petrifying to me. I think that being a “teacher” allows me opportunities to learn lessons from real people and experiences everyday in the classroom. To me, the student and the teacher really play the same role in education. I look at teaching as facilitating. I am eager to be able to help the learning process evolve. I am excited about approaching traditional problems in the classroom with a new perspective and perhaps new solutions. In today’s schools, politics, budget and many other issues get in the way of real learning. Classrooms are overloaded with students and under supplied with the proper learning tools. I hope that I can find creative solutions to these challenges. I also hope that the diversity of my colleagues and students will inspire new styles of learning and education. I am sure that I sound naïve, however, I plan on using my spirit for learning and my love for life in the classroom and inspire others to do the same. |
Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.
