Reading Recovery is an early intervention program designed to “jump start” first grade students who are not reading at grade level.  It is an individualized program designed to accelerate the child’s learning in order to help participants become independent readers on their average classroom level.   It is a program where each student is taught 5 days a week for 30 minutes each day.  All instruction is specifically planned to build on the student’s strengths.  The goal is to teach students the strategies needed to become independent and confident readers.   

         The first group of students receives 20 weeks of instruction, while the second group of students receive 14 weeks of instruction.  Students who progress more quickly may finish the program early.  The success rate for Reading Recovery students reading at or above grade level by the end of the year is very high.  This program builds the students’ self esteem as they become successful readers.
