Fifth Grade News

 Writing:  This year we will be working with the 5th grade teachers to complete our Family Albums and our State projects.  We will also incorporate many of the Science assignments into our writing time.  Some of the projects will require work at home and these assignments will be posted as we begin working on them.
 
Spelling:
All students who have Writing with me will have spelling homework Monday-Wednesday.  Spelling packets will go home on Mondays.  They will receive a spelling test on Thursday.  Spelling homework is due when students come for Writing each day Tuesday-Thursday.  Do not wait until Thursday to turn in the packet.
 
Weekly Homework Schedule:
  • Monday - Write your spelling words 3 times.
    • The first time, copy your list in order.
    • The second time, put the words in alphabetical order.
    • The third time, write the list one more time with the vowels in one color and the consonants in a different color.  The word "spelling" would look like this: spelling
  • Tuesday - Pick 10 of your words to write in sentences.  You should have 10 complete sentences.  Sentences need to be at least 5 words long.  Make sure you use the spelling words correctly in your sentences!
  • Wednesday - Write each of your spelling words pyramid style.  This is what the word "spelling" would look like pyramid style.

  • Thursday - Spelling Test Day, no homework!

     
Math:
All students who have Math with me will receive a homework sheet each day Monday - Wednesday.  It is usually some basic fact practice and a review of our daily lessons.  Homework is due when students come to my room for Math each Tuesday-Thursday.

Reading:

  • AR Reading 20 minutes every night!  Be sure to keep track of your AR minutes each night for your Fifth Grade teacher!
    •
