This College Bound U.S. History course is designed to provide students with the skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and challenges of American history. This course will attempt to help students understand the relevance of history and how it connects with the present, make history more meaningful to students, and help students become more informed decision-makers. In accordance with the Alabama Course of Study, this course will cover 1877 to the present.

GRADING:
All grades will be on the point system. Each assignment will be assigned a point value. Averages will be taken by dividing the total points earned by the total points possible. All assignments are due on the scheduled date. No late assignments will be accepted. Grades may consist of tests, essays (both in class & out of class), quizzes, bellringers, homework, workbook assignments, readings, and class work.
GENERAL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES:

- Be respectful of other people, including school administrators, faculty, staff, students and visitors.
- Be respectful of others’ property.

- Strive for prompt, regular attendance. Tardies will be cumulative for the semester. After the third tardy, parents will be notified. After the fourth tardy, an office referral will be made.
- Be prepared – bring all materials, assignments, etc., to class. All work is due on the assigned date. No late assignments will be accepted.
- Be responsible for make up work and tests. Any work previously assigned that is due during an excused absence is due immediately upon the student’s return. Students will have one week to make up tests and work assigned during an absence. Any work not completed within a week will earn a “0.” Make up tests will be given on Wednesdays during the lunch periods. Students should make an appointment with Mrs. Butler. Students who fail to attend a scheduled make up test will receive a zero.

- Check STI for grades, assignments, etc.
- All work is to be completed independently, unless otherwise specified. Any work plagiarized and/or copied will result in a “0,” parental notification, and an office referral.
- Each week, a trivia question will be posted on the “American Trivia” bulletin board. Students may submit answers until Thursday. On Friday, the correct answer will be discussed, and students answering correctly will earn 3 bonus points on the most recent test.
- No food or drink allowed in the classroom.
