Throughout your 6th grade year you will be graded in 4 Core Subject areas:
English Language Arts
Earth Science
Math
Social Studies
You can access your grade througout the year with Power Grade so you and your parents can keep track of how you are doing in class. If you do not have a password you can contact Robynn Johnson at RobynnJ@ocsmail.org or call 626-229-0993 for all Power Grade information.
Below is a breakdown of how you are graded in Language Arts and Earth Science
English Language Arts:
25% Reading - includes all novels, short stories, articles, poems, etc. as well as quizzes in reading comprehension & vocabulary.
25% Writing - includes journals, essays, reports, research projects & short answer tests.
25% Listening & Speaking - includes participation in class discussions, group work, oral presentations & performances.
25% Effort - includes the amount of thought, time, discipline & energy you put into your learning.
Earth Science:
25% Labs
25% Tests & Quizzes
25% Reports
25% Effort
Additional grades will all be given in:
Music
Art
P.E.
The overall grading scale is:
A 90% - 100% exceeds expectations
B 80% - 89% meets expectations, shows effort
C 79% - 70% meets minimum expectations, shows minimal effort
D 69% - 60% incomplete, poor effort
F 59% - 0% fail
This scale is used through middle school.
