This is a hands-on course in Music Composition using digital programs and techniques. Students learn how to use Garageband, Sound Studio-vs-Audacity, iMovie, and Finale Notepad. This class allows for an abundance of student exploration, creativity, & Constructivist learning. Any level of music writing competence is welcome. So, buckle-up, smile, and come prepared to experiment with the limitless possibilities of digital music!I will be adding more of the documents you need for your notebook to this site so check back often. I will keep you updated to our progress & exploration expectations through out the semester. Week 1 Introduction to Class Syllabus, daily rubric, assigning iBooks, set-up email, and introductions of Garageband. Week 2 Continue working on assignment assignment & view a few class presentations of 1st Garageband projects via classroom Smartboard-verbal & printed assessment given (smartboard example). During this week you will be assigned an out-of-class reading assignment in your 'Electronic Musician' Magazine. You will need to write a brief synopsis of your article in a word document & attach it to an email and send it to me for the end of the week. Week 3 Finish viewing class presentations of 1st Garageband projects via classroom Smartboard-verbal & printed assessment given (smartboard example). Using the assessment from your 1st project we will build a 2nd project in Garageband. We will also cover basic apple shortcuts. Week 4 Introduce advanced volume control. Continuing with the 2nd project in
Garageband. We will also cover shortcuts in beginning editing skills. A brief report on an article from Electronic Musician will be due at the end of the week. Week 5 Continue working with advanced volume control. Continuing with the 2nd project in Garageband. Progress reports are due soon, make sure all of your work is in = ) Week 6 View class presentations of the 2nd Garageband projects via classroom Smartboard, verbal & printed assessment will be given (smartboard example). Using
the assessment from your 2nd project we will build a 3rd project in
Garageband after introducing extended Editing techniques. Week 7 Continue working with Garageband projects using extended Editing techniques: Track name change, Playhead splitting, Modulation, Sustain, & Note change. Week 8 Because of a glitch in the schedule we will continue working with the Editing project. In the future this week may have an added assignment. Week 9 Finish the extended Editing Project & view via classroom Smartboard, verbal & printed assessment will be given (smartboard example). Week 10 Review quarter learning, organize & pass in notebooks for grading. Week 11 Introduction to iMovie. Students will start to manipulate still & video photography that reflect pre-recorded music. EM write up is due by email. Week 12 Continue to work with iMovie.
Week 13 Finishing and presenting the 1st iMovie project (manipulating digital photography to enhance the prerecorded music) to the class using the classroom Smartboard. Week 14 Start the 2nd iMovie project; writing a soundtrack with Garageband to enhance a prerecorded video. Week 15 Finishing and presenting the 2nd iMovie project to the class using the classroom Smartboard. Week 16 Underclassmen will create a presentation (using a program of their choice) and write an outline of what learning goals were demonstrated. Week 17 Finishing and presenting the last independent projects to
the class using
the classroom Smartboard. Week 18 Notebooks are due for grading on Monday. The last class/s will be year-end review, class evaluations, and we will burn CD's of your Compositions for you!
