Class Syllabus

Objectives to be addressed in this course include:

  • History 3: Students understand that societies are diverse and change over time.
    Benchmark A: Students know how various societies were affected by contracts and exchanges 0among diverse peoples.
    Benchmark B: Students understand the history of social organization in various societies.
  • Civics 2: Students know the structure and function of local, state and national government and how citizen involvement shapes public policy.
  • Benchmark 2C:  Students know and understand the place of law in the Colorado and US Constitutional systems.
  • Benchmark 2D:  Students know how public policy is developed at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Civics 4:  Students understand how citizens exercise the roles, rights, and responsibilities of participation in civic life at all levels.
  • Benchmark 4BStudents know how citizens can fulfill their responsibilities for preserving the constitutional republic.
  • Benchmark 4C:  Students know how citizens can exercise their rights.
  • Benchmark 4D: Students know how citizens can participate in civic life.

This course lends itself to straying from the topic under consideration and branching off into timely “learning moments”. While many subjects and circumstances are appropriate for these deviations from plan, student input must be appropriate for school and the classroom and the instructor will make the decision about what subjects can be discussed. Each day we will work through at least one Case Study and some problems relative to the topic being studied.

·         Participation points will be awarded only if students participate in the Case Studies, Class Discussion and activities.

·         On-time Quizzes will be given only if students are on-time
