In this class we use a text book called "Street Law." My objective is to give you an opportunity to learn your rights as citizens of the United States and perhaps gain an understanding of what those rights mean and where they came from.  Anyway, give it a chance. If you allow yourself, you may have some fun, learn something, and become a better person - or at least a better citizen.

The best way to get hold of me when you need to is via e-mail. Below is a link to my e-mail.

How Can You Succeed?

It is easy to succeed in my classes - including U.S. Government.
  1. Be in class on time every day.  Losing your opportunity to take the On-Time Quizzes (200 points per night) will significantly impact your grade.
  2. Turn in all your work each day.
  3. Avoid Absences and tardies:  Most students do no do the make up work and end up losing between 500 and 700 points for each night of absence. If you are absent for any reason other than Weather, you will have to take my final exam. If you are tardy for any reason other than Weather, you will have to take my final. These are not my rules but the school's rules to which you agreed.
  4. Participate in class.
  5. I follow rules. I do not make value judgements about rule infractions. If a rule is broken there is a consequence of some kind.
 Extra Credit
  1. I no longer allow extra credit work. Please, do not even ask me about it. If you keep up with the work we do in class, you shouldn't have any problems.
  2. I use a process called "Positive Points"
    1. Once I have explained my classroom expectations, if I see a student meeting those expectations, I MAY reward that student  with "Positive Points." Conversely, if I see a student regularly ignoring classroom expectations, there will be no Positive Points and could be negative consequences.
    2. These points may be accumulated and used to improve a grade on an assignment or even turned in to replace  an assignment, quiz, or test (NOT THE FINAL EXAMINATION)
    3. These points MAY also be awarded for demonstrating a spirit of volunteerism in the classroom.

Make Up Assignments

If you miss class, you will have to write a 1 page essay for every period you miss (4 periods per night {4:00-5:00; 5:00-6:30; 7:10-8:00; and 8:00-9:45}). So if you have an excused absence for 1 full night, you will need to write four 1 page essays, selecting from the topics provided. If the absence is unexcused you may not make up the work at all.

As easy as it is to pass my course if you attend class and do the work, it is nearly impossible to pass the course if you are absent and do not make up the work.

More often than not we have fun and that is what I am looking forward to. So, LET'S GET STARTED!
