Course Goals

In this course you will have an opportunity to learn in many different ways.  We will do projects individually and in groups.  Oral presentations and originally authored papers will be common tools of communicating subject knowledge.  I want this class to be open to discussion but classroom rules must be followed.  This course will provide an interesting and intriguing experience in world history and also help each student develop critical thinking skills that will be necessary in whatever step you take in life.  It is my goal to challenge you with these various exercises, so please do your best.

What each student should become familiar with:

  • Understanding map projections, interpreting demographic data, classifying information, problem solving, making comparisons, analyzing primary and secondary sources, using various forms of technology, outlining, and writing research papers through various assignments
  • Imagery in history will clearly identify events and increase comprehension.
  • Understanding chronological ordering.  Every event has its own place in history.
  • The importance of multicultural education and relevance to the modern world.

Classroom Management and Materials

  • One (1/2" to 1") 3-ring binder for this class only, one (two pocket) folder and one highlighter are required for this class.  You need to bring your binder and folder everyday.
  • World History textbooks will be used in class quite often and you need to bring it to class daily.
  • Calendars will be given to each student at the start of every unit (and kept in your binders).
  • Being tardy is unacceptable.
  • Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated.  You are expected to keep your eyes on your own paper and author your own work.  Cheating and plagiarism will result in 0 points.
  • Students need to be in their seats when the bell rings (or you are considered tardy).  No talking when others have the floor.
  • All school policies apply in this classroom.  Discipline will be handled directly.  If inappropriate behavior continues, I will only ask you once to behave, the second time you will be removed from class.  Respect yourself, your peers and me.
  • Do not stand near the door waiting for the bell to ring, if we finish class early.  I will dismiss you when the bell rings.
  • Learn and have some fun!
