4/16 - We finished the film and answered the prompts. HW: Read over vacation!
4/15 - Vocab day! After journal and an extended IRP, we played pict. and took the quiz. HW: Read over vacation!!!
4/14 - After IRP, we skipped vocab (pushing it back a few weeks) and, after collecting MG projects, started watching Roxanne in preparation for comparing it to the play. HW: None.
4/13 - In periods 5 and 7, we did vocab, then finished watching the movie, and answered 4 prompts in the remaining time. They were... 1 - Did the ending of the film work for you, why/not? 2 - What are 3 things that the film kept the same but changed slightly, and did the changes work? Why/not? 3 - What are 4 things the film left out, and was this good/bad and why? 4 - Which did you like better, film/story, and why?
In period 6, after vocab we had our last MG work day. HW: Vocab due Wed., unit 10 - MG due for period 6 on Wed.
4/10 - Vocab day! After IRP and journal, we played pictcharabulary and took the quiz for unit 10. HW: MG due next time!
4/9 - After IRP and vocab, we started watching the movie Roxanne, discussing reasons for watching - comparing and contrasting with the play. HW: MG due next time!
4/7 and 4/8 - After IRP and vocab, we worked on multi-genre projects the rest of the period, as our last work day. HW: A days - vocab due Friday, unit 10. Multi-genre projects due Monday/Tuesday; Wed. for period 6.
4/6 - ASVABS for all sophomores.

4/2 and 4/3 - After IRP, we did the end of the quarter checklist, making sure everything was turned in and ready to go for the end of the quarter. Then, we continued working on the MG project, which is due next week. HW: MG projects due 4/9 and 4/10.
4/1 - In periods 5 and 7, we did journal, IRP, and more multi-genre work. In period 6, we took the Cyrano test, then worked on essays or multi-genre projects the rest of the period. HW: End of Q Friday!
3/30 and 3/31 - After journal and IRP, in periods 1,2,5,7 we collected essay final drafts, then worked on multi-genre projects, filling out workslips and getting down to working on your genres. In period 6, we took notes on our study guide forms for Cyrano, in preparation of a test next time. HW: End of quarter Friday!
3/26 - 3/27 - We skipped the routine today and went right into the Cyrano test; following this, we took the rest of the period to work on peer editing and final drafts of essays, which are due next class. HW: Essays due next time.
3/25 - Because of the shortened schedule, we went right into vocab, going over any tough words together, playing pict., then taking the quiz for unit 9. HW: Test next class.
3/23 and 3/24 - After the routine, we finished off the study guides in per. 1,2,5,7, then went over essay final draft specifics - due Mon./Tues. of next week; see the WC for extra credit. In extra time, we worked on polishing the essays. In period 6, after the routine we finished working on rough drafts of essays. HW: Test next class in per. 1,2,5,7. All classes - make sure essay is done.
3/19 and 3/20 - In per. 1,2,5,7, we did the routine, went over the Multi-Genre assignment and picked genres, then started a study guide for an upcoming test. In period 6, we worked on multi-genre projects and essays to get caught up. HW: Essays were due today - are they in?
3/18 - After the routine, we had a vocab day for unit 9 - pict., quiz, then author study work. HW: Essays due Friday.
3/16 and 3/17 - After the routine, we took the whole period as a work day for essays, which are due Thurs. for A days and Fri. for B days. Vocab for unit 9 is also due for b days on Wednesday. HW: Vocab Wed. - unit 9; essays due end of the week.
3/12 and 3/13 - After the routine (semi-colons), we went over the essay prompts and worked on starting/continuing rough drafts. HW: Essay work.
3/11 - After the routine, we finished the play in per. 1 and did the same as those below; in period 2, we worked on rough drafts of the essay.
3/9 and 3/10 - After the routine (colon usage - not the body part, but the grammar term!), we finished act 4 in per. 1, started essays in period 2, and finished the book in periods 5,6, and 7, doing some predicting as we read. We then filled out the character log for the last time, getting down any final observations about our characters. We started looking at the essay prompts, too, which can be found in the documents section. HW: Start those essays!
3/6 - Vocab day! Journal and IRP, followed by Pict., the quiz, and author study work.
3/5 - After the routine, more Cyrano! We read through act 4 and filled out the character log.
3/4 - Because of the snow day, we moved vocab to Friday. Today, we read more of the play, getting through act 4 in most periods. Vocab HW is due Friday for unit 8.
3/2 and 3/3 - After the routine, we read more of Cyrano, getting through act 3 in most classes. We then took some time for filling out the character log.

Class agenda
Feb. 27th (B day) - In all classes, we took a mini-quiz for Eng. Mech, then did the rest of the routine. Following this, in period 5 we were missing nearly half the class, and so we took some time for author study work, make-up work, conferencing, etc. In period 6, we finished reading Cyrano and summarized what we learned about our characters, and in period 7, we made it through the start of act 4 and did the character log at the end of class. TO DO IF YOU MISSED: Make up the Eng. Mech. quiz; see me for the reading in periods 6 and 7. HW: None.
Feb. 26th (A day) - After the routine (practice on all three Eng. Mech. problems for a quiz next time), we read more from Cyrano, getting halfway through act 3 in per. 1 and finishing act 4 in per. 2. In the end of class, we worked on character journals. TO DO IF YOU MISSED: See me to make up the reading. HW: Eng. mech. mini-quiz next class over title, dialog, and apostrophe use.
Feb. 25th - Snow day!
Feb. 12 (A day) - I was out sick today, and you all did the normal routine then worked on author study and make up work. HW: Read over vacation!
Feb. 11 (B day) - Vocab day! After journal and IRP, we played pictcharabulary, took the quiz for unit 7, then worked on author study projects until the end of the class. TO DO IF YOU MISSED: See me to make up the quiz. HW: Read over vacation!
Feb. 9 (B day) and 10 (A day) - After the routine (apostrophe use with Eng. Mech.), we did more from Cyrano, nearly finishing act 2 in periods 1,5,7, and getting through much of act 3 in periods 2 and 6. We also worked on character journals at the end.

Feb. 5 (B day) and 6 (A day) - After the routine (practice with punctuating dialog for Eng. Mech.), we continued reading fro Cyrano, getting through the start of act 2 in all periods. We then took some time to work on our character journals at the end of class.

Feb. 4 (A day) - Vocab day! After the routine, we played Pict. and then took the quiz for unit 7 - then, we worked on author study logs in the remaining time.
Feb. 2 - 3 - After the routine, we went over the Cyrano unit assignment (found in the Class Documents folder to the left) and picked parts for the reading. Then, we started act 1 in the play. Jan. 30 - 31 - After the routine, we took the Cyrano quiz, then talked about some terms and themes from the play. Following this, we watched an episode of The Simpsons called "The Way We Was," answering questions about the relation to the terms and themes from the play. HW: None. TO DO IF YOU MISSED: See me to get the worksheet and to discuss how to make it up.
Jan. 29 - B day - Vocab day! Pictcharabulary and then the quiz; in period 7, we also worked on author study logs. HW: Cyrano quiz next class. TO DO IF YOU MISSED: See me to make up the quiz.
Jan. 26 - 28 - Today, after the routine we went over a powerpoint focused on the play we'll be reading, Cyrano de Bergerac, as well as the man behind the play and the play's author. We took notes, which we'll use to take a quiz next class.

Jan. 20 - 23 - MIDTERMS! For periods 1,5, and 7, you had an on-demand RTL over a book you've read this year. For periods 2 and 6, we used the organizers we'd filled out last class over Todd Strasser's "At the Bridge" to write a RTL.
Jan. 16 - After the routine, we went over the end of the quarter housekeeping checklist - things like IRP quarterly progress, portfolios, conferences, etc.
Jan 15 - Today we started with a vocab quiz for periods 5,6,7 for unit 5. Then, we went over the end of the quarter housekeeping checklist - things like IRP quarterly progress, portfolios, conferences, etc.
Jan 14 - Today was a vocab day for per. 1-2. We worked on the quiz for unit 6.
Jan. 12th/13th -
After the routine (journal, IRP, vocab), we prepped for our midterm, which is an RTL. In periods 1,5, and 7, we went over an RTL help sheet that focused on problem areas and then in any extra time worked on vocab or the RTL organizer. In periods 2 and 6, we read a short story called "At the Bridge" and worked on filling out the organizer for the story.
TO DO IF YOU MISSED: See me to get the RTL help sheet (1,5,7) or the short story (2,6). HW: Vocab due Wed. (A days - unit 6) and Thursday (B days - unit 5).
Also - do you have your final draft of your research paper in? If not, it's really hurting your grade!

After journal, IRP, and vocab, we went over your PSAT scores with the guidance department. Then, we continued work (LAST work day!) for research papers.
