- All lectures become work periods... Mr. M. will start in Lecture, then come to Mac Lab
- next week - show Mr. M. your site on your .info (you can have it marked, or get it marked the next week)
- Worry MOSTLY about the structure and learning WordPress...
    just get enough CONTENT to make it look good.... but this assignment is NOT about content.

So much to know.... so little time...

Say you did a WordPress, that gets 100,000 visits a DAY!

You notice it is SLOW.... visitors are frustrated... your "popular" site may die a slow death...
   just when you thought you were getting there.

You know... that PHP takes LONGER for a server to run, than plain old static HTML pages. Don't you--
and PHP must HIT a database, which takes longer too.


AGAIN, the POWER of Open Source is that you don't have to solve BIG PROBLEMS (like a slow site) -
it has been solved for you.

Mr. M. is still surprised how many people have not EMBRACED Open Source Software...
   and there is no sense telling them how great it is, how much time it will save, how much more money
      you can make....  they are stuck in time.... but on their own... they will change.

What you got to know about Domain names.

Did you know that ALL websites are just numbers?

Like a phone number....

But when you type in
http://cnn.com
a DOMAIN NAME SEVER  (tons of these around the world, hook up to that number)
That is why... DNS numbers are usually needed when you set up hosting


IMPORTANT:
- By next week, you will fully understand how Domains function.. forward, forward with masking, DNS, "A" record.

For this hosting ( a little unusual - normally MrM changes two DNS numbers.) - you have to set your "A" record
Log into your Godaddy account.

Go to the DNS manager... have a look at the screenshots below...









Wait 24-48 hours, then try
http://yoursite.info/cpanel  - enter your username/password
and try your cPanel, set up a WordPress in 60 seconds
try to FTP to your account


Homework:
Have your WordPress working on your .info site for next week.
Explore what cPanel has to offer you.
Come on Friday if you need help, or want to work on anything.
