MM 126 Week #6

Using SnapZPro to make a short Film $100,000

Mr. M. made extensive use of SnapZPro  (the screen recording software $100)
for his short film

Practice what you preach

Mr. M.'s advise to you...
  1. Enter contests - they will TEACH you a lot, more than you know
  2. SHOW your work to a community - even if they are critical of your work... that more than anything at college will help you improve

$100,000 LG Film Contest

Review:

1st - OPEN YOUR WHAT I LEARNED DOCUMENT

Pick on you

What did that feature of Word do - we saw last week
Format Painter  (the little paintbrush button on toolbar)

More Review:

Mr. M. said there are at least 3 kinds of "CACHE"
Do you recall that

He wasn't able to show you the Google one..
but found it on Saturday...

DEMO IT HERE

TIP OF THE DAY:

Did you know?

You can upload a Word/Excel/PowerPoint to Google Docs...
and NOT have Google convert it

Sing-a-long:
Create a MS Word Doc called

Review the MS OFFICE assignment...
  all should be there...

Have them work on  PowerPoint and WOrd this week maybe..

USE THE TOOLBAR

--- not ready yet for 2011 ---

Work in pairs for 10 minutes...

Say you have a client that has the following for a nice website:

- 80 Mb movie file
- 1.1 Gb movie file, from a promotional DV they had
- 10 Mb movie file
- 900 K nice jpeg of a photo
- 25,000 bytes .png logo for company
- 35 Mb .wav file  (sound file)

and they want you to put that on a web page.

What is your advice?

First, let's establish the max size of a web page... cnn.com might do...
Download and install the Web Developer Toolbar.

Put this size in your What I Learned Document, in that file size table.

Second...
How large are those files.
Prepare a table, with items and bytes...
then add up all the bytes and express in a common unit.

Third
How large of a file does YouTube.com allow? In file size and in time....
it was ___ Mb at one time.

So.. what do you tell the client.

DIIGO?

We had an extra hour to spare last week...
Hope everyone is caught up.

Show Mr. M>
1- That your started your Diigo account
2- Bookmark the PowerPoint how not to  YouTube site with keywords

2011 Special Topic - Apple Keynote  (like PowerPoint)

The cinematic presenter

Sing-a-long

Could you use this for your Reel?

  1. What is Keynote?  WHy did Steve Jobs make it?
  2. How much does it cost - Search Staples... buy it on APP Store...
  3. Launch Keynote
  4. Make a slide or two
  5. add a movie to slide 3
  6. add some transitions etc.  FOLLOW MR> M> lead
  7. Make a MOVIE of your keynote

Things you should know about Presentation Software
  1. There are FREE Alternative, Open Office, Neo Office, Google Docs
  2. Powerpoint is a good creation tool - but a lousy distribution tool
  3. KeyNote - is made by Apple, and is the PowerPoint for Mac - although MS PowerPoint

Topic #1 - PowerPoint Tips

  • launch MS PowerPoint in Windows
  • open your "What I learned in MM 126" Document
  • Follow Mr. M. Demo - write down tips
Tips:
- consider your OWN theme... you can do that with Slide Master, or just BLACK and add images
- standard themes tend to be overused, tired and boring
- it would be disappointing if any MM Graduate gave a presentation using standard themes.
- format painter
- Slide Master
- use slide master for LOGO, and to change fonts - DEMO
- save as (web page)
- add a transition
- have title then bullets come up.
(never over-use effects - you think you are being a "pro" - but you are conveying the opposite message)
- add your own points you discover

Topic #2 - PowerPoint and What makes a good presentation

- what not to
- steve jobs
- MR. M. 2 hour, 119 slides, "how to engage students" University in states

- see .flv below under attachments

  3. How to photography SMOKE  (do demo for this year 2011)
  4. TIP: you could summarize a YOUTUBE video... like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iv39UmuiYNA

    Like...
    http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+photography+smoke&aq=f

  5. Photographing birds
  6. Macro Photography
  7. A study of rule of thirds  (framing)
  8. Good Composition / Bad Composition
  9. Award winning photography - a study
  10. Sports photography
  11. High Speed Photography
  12. Secrets to Black and White Photography
  13. Why break the rule of thirds

Think of catchy title for your INTRO slide:

Top 10 ways to make your photos PRO

Good Bad and Ugly Portrait studies

History of Photography

Famous Photographers - a study of what they had in common

Why I choose to BREAK the Rule of Thirds

Photo TIPS you can't live without

....

Important Notes:

- Mr. M. isn't teaching or trying to teach you photography... Gail and Frank know far more than Mr. M.
- Frank is teaching Mr. M. about photography - why? - Video on Net.
- Mr. M. has spent last year, and most of summer, learning, not ADVANCE photography, but the most basic of things.
Say it takes 5 years to really learn photography to a PRO level  - so spending ONE year on basics and fundamentals doesn't seem too bad, does it?
- there is no sense learning advanced photography, photoshop *your digital darkroom*, without the basics first.

Assignment:
