For a moment...

Picture what you wrote down in your Google Document (Assignment) about what you were willing to do for the
client in the $1,000 project.

Can you see, it might be a little bit incomplete?

Do you look like a pro with the description you jotted down.

TIP:
Copy this into your "What I learned Document today!"

From SITE POINT copy this into your What I Learned Doc

Scope of Work and Scope Creep

According to the people over at A List Apart, scope creep is "the natural process by which clients discover what they really want." My first encounter with this phenomenon was relatively minor (a client suddenly wanted a bunch of animated GIFs on a particular page), but it made me keenly aware of what a slippery slope this can become.

The purpose of detailing the project scope is not to prevent the inevitable scope creep, but to give you the flexibility of deciding when it’s appropriate to charge for the additional work. Depending on the size of the project, it may not be appropriate to include the project specifications in the actual contract. Regardless of whether the specs are in the contract, or a separate document, be sure to specify exactly what is and is not included — and have the client sign all the documentation.

"How Many Changes are they Going to Make?"

I have a problem with the concept. You learn a lot less from somebody else's notes than from the textbook or the lecture. If you are buying notes instead of investing your time in the actual instruction, I don't see it as a good investment in your own education.

If people pass the exam by reading some student's' notes, logically and directly it means that those notes are just as good or BETTER than the text books or lectures your talking about because they focus entirely on what the class wants you to learn...

Lab Topic: Student R& D in Lab

Hey Paul
THANKS for email.
Sure, you can use that as a $1000 website assignment.
Did you check out the source yet?

I noticed at very top it says
<!--
Design by Free CSS Templates
http://www.freecsstemplates.org
Released for free under a Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License
-->
Which is great, this is how pros build websites... the idea of starting with a blank page,
isn't the way it is done professionally. Not sure why so many think that a blank page is the way to start...

Lab Topic: Quick Mark for Keeping up in MM 218

If you have it at home... put on Google Doc TONIGHT, and show Mr. M> next week for makr

Honest? Hope so... Mr. M. has tools to check if when a file was touched...

Maye just 1 if they got content or have been putting 3 hours or more,

OK. you will hear Mr. M. say over and over... you have to put the time in if you want to have employable skills in 3 years.

So... you have had 3 - 6 hours OUTSIDE of lab time, to think about a template, content etc..

What have you done?

For

3/3 if you have MOST of your content and looking like a great start.

2/3  if say your HOME page is looking nearly done, but other pages aren't

1/3 if you barely started

0/3 if you just have a template.

If you miss showing Mr. M. deduct -1 or if you are away with or without an excuse

Lab Topic - Give 5 minutes  - addign a Google Map to your website

- Can You figure it out.

- Mr. M. to do

- easy way and hard way

Lab Topic: Get  your FREE web hosting from Mr. M. thanks to Kevin Element

For first time, in first year, college is providing .info and free web hosting

NOTE:

College student server should be considered a "testing environment" if you have a real client, or your real

portfolio  (3rd year) - you should have your own PAID hosting.

NOT Godaddy hositing, cause it sucks.

OK. you w

Lab Topic: What is FTP? Why do you care

can't do until next week..

Mr. M> to give quick example.

Mr. M. recently hired a award-winning designer (he enters contests) and MrM asked him

Q: Are you comfortable with FTP?

Here is his answer.

- Yes, i use it at work, and for my freelance projects all the time.

Why:

Mr. M. thinks if freelancers, graduates etc. don't know the most basic things (like FTP),

they will cost him a lot of time in a real-world project. He is patient with students, but has little when paying a freelancer.

FTP is used by people that NEVER build web pages, but are experts in other fields.

Maybe see assignment, for Google analytic et.

Lab Topic: Google Analytics , Website Monitor, Link Checker

<Maybe see assignment, for movie et.

DEMO...

Lab Topic: Hooking up your .info to your Godaddy account

Godaddy doe NOT know where you are hosting your site.

So you have to tell them

This can be done in a few ways.

1- Forwarding
2- forwarding with masking
3- DNS numbers (2)
4- "A" record change

In 15 years, MrM has only done a FEW "A" record changes, but this is the way Kevin's server works.

Most common way is method 3 - which invovles typing in 2 numbers, 185.025.3.104 like
