    Student R&D Department

    Thanks students for these:

    Terms you gotta know...

Important terms you should know (i.e. with Googling them - like for a job interview, or verbal discussions)

    Terms:

      1. fav icon
      2. Google Analytics
      3. Web site monitoring service

No worries... you will HAVE to do all of these things with $1000 website assignment, then you will really know them.

      Concern ?:

OK, thanks for the relatively few that upgraded their Python Programming mark.

Maybe Python isn't that important... but
      Learning HOW to learn is...

So, do seriously consider spending at least 3 hours a week on Mr M classes.

No extra time (outside of class time) =  N J

      Sorry to dwell on this.
I'm not too worried (yet) about this class.

I was encouraged about the Interest in $1000 website.

      Thanks

      MrM

      Tom:

This is an excellent cloud solution!

For too long, project management software has been far to difficult.

I hear people bragging about MS Project... but it does very little practically speaking for them.

The best quote I've heard about PM Software... from PC Magazine (I was a contributing editor, years ago) -

"These PM tools will take you longer to master, than your project will take to complete."

I've been fond of light-weight tools like Base Camp… but even their approach
brings complexity… and not everyone is "good" at computers.

      ONE FEATURE SUGGESTION:
When I add TEXT to a 'period" - and it is only a day or so - Why not have that text in the title="" (better than alt="" - think.)

Then, a mouse over, will reveal my text - as a tooltip.

Anyways, I'm so impressed with this, I'm requiring it in all my Multimedia classes.

Thanks for a great tool, My software company is paying for pro version, and well worth it.

I even use it for a Short Film I'm doing, to lay out each scene and duration.
I sit down with the producer… and move things around.

If any of my student could help with any beta-testing, that would be really good,
      they are a great bunch.

      Hi Rob,

Thanks so much for your email and very good to hear you like Tom's Planner!

I will file that quote on MS Project: it's so true!

I have added your request to the wish list, we are thinking out a way to display text in shorter periods.

We always welcome beta testers and I will put your name on the list, I'll get in touch if you could use the help of your students.

Thanks again, it's always good to hear from enthusiastic users!

      Lab

      Highlights

      1. Starting the $1,000 website assignment
      2. Picking a ficticious client for your Assignment
      3. Thinking about a TEMPLATE for your site
      4. MrM to BUY DOMAIN NAMES, and assign HOSTING, this will take a while to do....

      Reminder:
By the START of the LAB,

you should have submitted the .info name you want the college to buy

If you haven't done this... it kinda wastes Mr. M. time...

Lab Topic: Starting the $1,000 Website -Phone book

      . OK, pick a client...

. No dice, no Phonebook, you pick color

Here is how you will pick a client

      If your name is
      Joe Student
      then
You Company MUST start with an "S"

      DEMO
      http://www.yellowpages.ca/locations/Ontario/Thunder+Bay

      So...
Start a Google Doc of this assignment TODAY,
put in the company you choose

      Note:
If you picked Colossimo Music (if your last name was a "C")
you will rename it to something fictious like

      Collester Music

      Get the idea?

Lab Topic: Think about a TEMPLATE for your site, take a week to do this

      DEMO

      https://www.google.com/search?q=jquery+web+templates+free

Remember, starting completely from scratch, is rather a bad idea for 100 reasons.

In 2 minutes, Mr. M. found this:
      http://www.templates.com/blog/20-free-website-templates-jquery/

He would want to download, play with it, validate it... before deciding on it

      DEMO?
      http://css-free-templates.com/light/free-hotel-template-with-jquery/

What does Mr. M. look for in a template?

      Big Question:
If it had NO jQuery, would he be interested in it, isn't it easy to add jQuery to a HTML page?

Lab Topic: Buy Domain and provide Hosting to all students

Mr. M. to try to buy domains names and hosting for you this week.
