Watchtower Library 2009 in Ubuntu

This quick method of installing Watchtower Library2009 (WTLIB 2010 here) in Linux is taken from the experts over at Wine HQ. You can visit their site for lots more text if you want, but for now try these basic steps:

Quick guide on Watchtower Library installation (WineHQ)

  1. Get the latest version of wine (make sure you get the latest one, version 1.1.22 or greater, not 1.0.x one)
  2. (optional, but without this step you may need to change font in wtlib settings on first run) Install MS truetype core fonts for web package. To do this
    • Install msttcorefonts package using your packaging system. If it fails:
    • Install it using winetricks (this will affect your wine installation only, fonts won't be available for non-wine applications):
      wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks
      sh winetricks corefonts
  3. Insert WTLib disc and run Setup.exe. If it won't work, do this:
    wine /cdrom/Setup.exe
  4. Installer would create working shortcuts on your desktop (on some systems in home folder), and in Applications > Wine menu. Use these to run Watchtower Library. You may delete *.lnk files (if there are any), since these are of no use.

Fonts smoothing

Starting with version 1.1.12 wine supports fonts smoothing which makes fonts looking much better. By default, this option is disabled. Here is a quick way to enable it and select best smoothing method for your monitor:
wget http://files.polosatus.ru/winefontssmoothing_en.sh
sh winefontssmoothing_en.sh

Problems?

If you have had troubles remember to:
  • Remove your .wine folder before going on.
  • The desktop icon needs execute priveledges
  • Dont squint, you are not done till "Font smoothing" is installed.
