Students will be learning topics including linear, quadratic, exponential and logarithmic functions, exponents and radicals, linear and nonlinear systems of equations and inequalities. Students must have earned a minimum of a "C" in Math 50 or Math 50B to be in this course.
TEXTBOOK, CALCULATOR, AND OTHER SUPPLIES
The required textbook for this class is Intermediate Algebra by Aufmann, Barker, Lockwood 7th Edition. You will need a scientific calculator. You will also need a ruler, pencil, paper, graph paper, and a stapler. Please bring your textbook and calculator everyday.
HOMEWORK
Class time is too limited to provide students the time necessary to master this subject. Therefore, homework will be given daily. You are responsible to do all assignements, which will prepare you for the exams. Individual study is imperative. Expect to spend 8-12 hours per week doing homework and preparing for the exam.
There will be about 13 to 15 homework packets, each worth 10 points. Each packet will be due every Tuesday. I wil take the best ten packets. LATE HOMEWORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Please staple homework assignments if there is more than one page of homework turned in. TO RECEIVE CREDIT YOU WILL NEED TO SHOW WORK. Homework with no work shown will not be graded.
GRADES PROCEDURES
The components of your course grade are four regular exams, a comprehensive final exam, homework, and participation. Your grade shall be determined by the average of your class participation, homework score, and your exam scores using the following percentage ranges:
A-90-100%
B-80-89%
C-70-79%
D-60-69%
F-below 60%
Dates for Exam 1 to 4 are tentative and may change.
The comprehensive final exam must be taken on Thursday, December 18, 2008 from ____________________ in room __________.
