Process Essay

Process Essay

As seniors wrap up their first semester of high school, many are caught up in a process for college known as the application process. In order for the next chapter to unfold in a young adult’s life known as college, seniors must fill out applications to college. These applications can be long and tedious and usually are accompanied by a large essay. These applications will determine which school a student may attend. Although many students dread the application process, there is a basic format one can follow to save time and energy.

College applications always start off with asking for one’s name, address, high school attended, age, etc. Schools need this information to identify a person and make sure that the applicant really exists. Next, is a copy of an official school transcript.1This shows the college a record of how the student did in high school. A transcript lists all four years of high school, including grades, classes attended and classroom attendance. Colleges need the transcript to see ones strengths and weaknesses and to determine if they are a student they want on their campus.

Following the basic information and transcript comes the test scores for the SAT, SAT Subject Test and ACT.2 This shows colleges how one compares to other applicants and students. This test accounts for overall knowledge and includes math and English as well as an essay. Finally, one must include a personal essay. This essay must be theme based3 and give the colleges a reason to pick you other than grades. This gives a student the chance to show the colleges who they truly are behind the mask of a transcript.

Overall, the application process can be intimidating and endless. Some colleges these days are accepting common applications4 to make the process a little less stressful on students. Finally, some colleges will interview5 students to get a true overall picture on the student. Although the application process to colleges is hard, receiving the acceptance letter in the mail is one of the best feelings a student can have.
