"the fine print"

What?  SLOBO is an after school club designed to encourage and promote a healthy, physical, outdoor activity through the use of a mountain bike. Participants will ...

  • mountain bike the trails behind the school
  • learn basic equipment repair as problems occur on the trail
  • help maintain the trails behind the middle school
  • make new friends with students who share your passion

Who?  Any registered grade seven or grade eight student from the Silver Lake Regional School District who has their own mountain bike and helmet.  Silver Lake High School students will be allowed to ride with us if they are past members or are sponsored by past members.

Where? We ride mostly on the district owned property surrounding the school.  Off property trips and special weekend trips to various Massachusetts State Parks are also planned.

When?  During the school year, we have weekly rides or meetings on Friday afternoons from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.  Since there are no late buses on Fridays participants will need to provide their own transportation.  Students must meet in room 316 at the close of school for club business (attendance, safety talk, bike maintenance clinic, etc).  We will then go outside at 2:15 P.M. to get our bikes and meet the high school riders.

At the end of the ride (4:00 P.M.) parents should meet the riders in the parking lot between the Middle School and the administration building.

Other?

  • There is no cost related to joining or participating in this club.
  • For safety reasons, the maximum number of riders allowed per ride will be sixteen unless multiple advisors are present.
  • All ride information and sign ups will be done via email and the club website.
  • Students MUST sign up with Mr. Basile via an email by the close of school on Thursday.
  • Students must meet in room 316 prior to riding on Friday afternoon for attendance and the pre-ride discussion.
  • Students are responsible for providing their own equipment related to riding.  Equipment should be in working order prior to the ride.
  • Parents and students are responsible for transporting and securing their equipment.
  • Rain will cancel the weekly ride.
  • If the ride is canceled, it will be posted on the club website and an email will be sent to all riders.
  • Evening rides and Saturday or Sunday excursions will require parental transportation.
  • The guidelines set forth in the student handbook pertaining to student eligibility and bicycle safety will always be followed.
  • No helmet = no riding with the club.
The club advisers are not responsible for a rider's personal items if they are lost while biking.

  • Parents who continually arrive late to pick up their children may jeopardize their child’s participation in the club.

How do I sign up?

1.  Have a bicycle consent form completed and on file with Mr. Basile (see Mr. Basile for a copy of this form or download it from the document page).

2.  Have a club permission form completed and on file with Mr. Basile (see Mr. Basile for a copy of this formor download it from the document page).

Please note, these forms only have to be filled out once for the entire school year.  Students not meeting eligibility requirements will not be allowed to ride with the club.  Refer to the student handbook for the eligibility requirements.

3.  Students need to sign up for the rides via an email to Mr. Basile.  You should notify Mr. Basile at least twenty-four hours before the ride of your intention to ride.  (This must be done weekly for a count of participants for the Friday ride.  There must be a minimum of two students to ride.  If no one signs up or only one student signs up, the ride will be canceled.  The maximum number of riders depends on the number of advisors joining the ride.).  Participants meet in room 316 on Friday afternoon to prepare for the ride.
