Here are picture instructions on how to replace the crappy transistor inside your IMRC box. It keeps you from having to buy a new/used one.
Equipment needed:
1. TIP121 Motorola type transistor ~$0.80
2. Soldering iron, solder, de-solderer/braid
3. 8mm socket for Duratec cover
4. Phillips screwdriver
1. First, unplug the wire and unscrew the top plate on your IMRC (Located on the front valve cover, under the plastic "Duratec" shield.) CLICK TO ENLARGE
2. Second, there is supposed to be a white plastic screw holding on the transistor (notated on MY board by the "2" with the triangle. Your's might not have this). Remove this white plastic screw, discard. Then remove the five screws holding on the board to the housing. Now, pull slightly upwards with the black connector. The board and motor should come free.
3. Notice the position of the old transistor (and creepy thumb!)
4. Remove the old transistor and put the new one in. Make sure it sits the exact same way, with the hole lined up to the one in the board.
5. Cut off and clean up the other side of the board. Make sure it doesn't stick out too far from the board or it will short against the housing cover.
That's it! PM me if you have any questions, like where to get them. "TIP121" on Ebay seems to work.
