Canongate Books and XL Recordings celebrate the life of legendary poet, novelist and hip-hop pioneer Gil Scott-Heron with the launch of his posthumous memoir, The Last Holiday (pictured), at Book Slam at  South London's Clapham Grand venue on January 19.

A stellar line-up includes poets Salena Godden, Kate Tempest, Ben Mellor and iconic DJsJamie XX (who reworked Scott-Heron's 2010 album I'm New Here - as We're New Here - in 2011) and Gilles Peterson playing a one-off musical tribute, plus readings and rare and exclusive video footage of the great man.


Gil Scott-Heron posthumous text is titled "The Last Holiday" be released by Canongate on Jan. 16, 2012.

Gil Scott Heron Died 28 May 2011 in a New York Hospital.

Gil Scott-Heron: The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, was shown on Friday, 10pm, 5th December, 2003 on BBC4 and a number of repeats of this documentary on BBC 4 also have happened; Don Letts did the interviewing on this iconic documentary television.
 
Gil Played  May 2nd 2009 at The Oriental and Sunday, and May 3rd 2009 at The Fox Theatre in Denver, USA.
Sunday 7th of June BBC 6music in UK featured Gil Scott Heron in their Music Week program. Gil Scott-Heron Played B.B. Kings Blues Club in New York City on Wednesday, November 4th 2009. Gideon Coe played concert recordings of Gil Scott Heron at Glastonbury in 1986 in January 2010 on BBC 6 Music.
 
In early 2010 Gil Scott-Heron will release a brand new album entitled I'm New Here  on XL Recordings. Here you will find four excerpts from his first album in a long while.  These tracks have been recorded in New York over the past 18 months. You may have heard a little on BBC2's Newsnight on the 16th of November.
 
Me And The Devil is the first single to be taken from Scott-Heron's new album I'm New Here, released on February 8. In March 2010 announce The xx would  Remix Gil Scott Heron I'm New Here Album.
 
Gil Scott Heron will also on March 26 2009 at the Annual Black Writers Conference in Medgar Evers College in The City University of New York as he is writer as well as a musician.

Gil Scott-Heron to play Liverpool Sound City on April 29 in the Philharmonic Hall. Gil will play Somerset House in London on the 14th of July. Gil Scott-Heron will play WOMAD near Malmesbury, in Wiltshire from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th July 2010. He also plays Bestival September 9th to 12th 2010 on the Isle Of Wight in the UK.
 
Gil Scott Heron In Ireland

The Electric Picnic line-up isn’t being announced until March 24, but Gil Scott-Heron has jumped the gun by telling us on his website that he’s Stradbally-bound on Saturday September 4.  That’s all changed though with the release last month of I’m New Here – his most successful ever album in Ireland and the UK.
