Lion’s Paw Winners!

Congratulations Room 205. We’re continuing to roar into the new year! Our class once again was recognized for the month of December for their excellent performance of the South Loop Way. We are very proud of you and appreciate your hard work. Let’s keep this up for the rest of the year! For our award, we were invited to attend a basketball game between South Loop staff and the upper grade students. Even though we were looking forward to a comeback by the students after their loss in last month’s volleyball game, the staff continued their winning streak. Keep practicing those skills kids!

Dear Parents,

Welcome back and Happy New Year!  We hope you had a wonderful and relaxing winter break.

Our class is continuing our study of world music through a partnership with the Fulcrum Point Music Project. This is a program that explores global cultures through world music and art throughout six sessions. Last month students were introduced to Latin music and its historical and cultural roots. Our final session concluded with music from Asia and a tie-in of World Music to “New Music.” Each session includes a performance of traditional instruments from a different culture.

The students and I are happy to have Ms.  Chan, our student teacher, back with us for the next few months. She will be here twice a week while also completing her coursework at the University.

                                           Sincerely,

Ms. Reynolds

Student of the Month

Congratulations to Maria Broom!  She is our December student of the month. Thank you for setting a great example for the rest of us!

In November our class attended a field trip to Open Books, Inc., a community center that works with students on reading and writing projects. Our students participated in a writing workshop in which they composed stories while the staff at Open Books photographed them. Their stories and pictures were published in a book entitled The Good, The Bad, and The Funny. Our students were thrilled to receive a copy of the book and see themselves and their stories in print.
