Grandeur Fun Run

Date: May 16, 2009
Time: 7:00 am

Overview
Start at the Parleys Canyon trailhead at the base of Grandeur Peak. 10 mile loop course, approx 4000 feet elevation.  99% singletrack/game trails.  Maybe a little bush whacking. 1 Aid Station at Church Fork.  Run it twice to get ready for Windy Pass.

Entry
Just show up and have fun!  After you finish, if you complain about how steep it is, how poorly marked it is, that the aid station is minimal (if it's even there at all), or the pancakes are burnt or undercooked, you may be charged a hefty "whiner" fee.

Aid
There should be an aid station at Church Fork, about mile 5.  There will be water, maybe a few gels, chips and/or some type of sports drink.  Basically whatever I can find in my basement the night before.

Course
For the first 2.2 miles, follow the main ridge up the west face of grandeur peak.  It's hard to miss the trail. At the top of Grandeur peak, drop down the back (west) side for 20-30 feet and follow the trail to your left (south).  It wraps around the peak and then heads east along the ridge for about 3/4 of a mile.  The trail then drops into Church Fork and you stay on this main trail for 2 more miles until it intersects with the Pipeline trail in Millcreek Canyon.  There should be an aid station at the intersection. Take a right and run along the pipeline trail for 2 miles to Rattlesnake Gulch.  About 300 yards past Rattlesnake Gulch, take a right on a minimal trail.  Head up (it's steep) for about 1/3 mile then drop down the west side of the mountain down a steep singletrack for  1/2 mile.  Take a right, sidehill along the west face of the mountain on some singletrack/game trails.  Drop sown a small rock slide to an old dirt access road, run along this for about  1/2 mile until you are looking at Parley's Canyon, take a sharp left back towards the start and follow the smell of pancakes to the finish.  There will be a few ribbons at major turns, but they will be minimal.  Keep your eyes open and study the map before you run it.

Post Race Breakfast
There will be hot pancakes and OJ at the finish.  If you want eggs/bacon/sausage,etc, feel free to bring it and I'll cook it all up while your'e running.  If you're one of those wierdo's that doesn't like pancakes, please bring something else to share.

Parking
There is limited parking at the trailhead.  Please carpool if possible, and you may need to park in the parking lot of Eastwood Elementary at the top of 3300 South and Wasatch Boulevard, and walk the 1/3 mile along the frontage road to the start.  Please DO NOT park on the residentail side streets. The neighbors get grouchy and have been known to call the authorities.  Let's keep everyone happy.
