Mr. Chen and Five of His Students Receive Special Awards
The RI Holocaust Resource Center held a contest based on the theme "The Courage to Resist." Five of Mr. Chen's 8th graders won first place in their respective categories! Tosin Balogun and Bianca Paz won "Best Website", Sabina Zunjic won "Best Short Story", and Julia Cooper and John Taveras won for "Poetry and Art".
Mr. Chen also received special recognition. He won this year's "Joyce & Bob Starr Teacher" award, a fund that awards one teacher a year that "creates an atmosphere where students successfully demonstrate their understanding of the Holocaust and how the events of the Holocaust impact a society."
