Student Contract

Student Contract for Distance Learning Courses

Because distance education demands a maturity level and dedication beyond what is necessary under normal circumstances, good behavior, a cooperative attitude and a serious dedication to learning are expected of all students wishing to participate in e-learning courses.  This contract is intended to make the expectations we have for students clear to all:  the students, their parents, and the local school district administrators.

As a student participating in a DDN/Internet based course, I agree to:

  • Be respectful of my fellow students, the E-mentor, and the Master Teacher.
  • Participate in class discussions, lectures, projects, etc.
  • Refrain from disruptive behavior that would interfere with teaching and learning in the classroom or online, such as:

1.    using inappropriate language or gestures; creating distracting noises

2.    participating in cheating or plagiarism

3.    leaving or entering the classroom without the E-mentor’s approval

4.    talking or creating noise while the Master Teacher is talking to the class or another student

5.    Refusing to show drawings or projects on the doc cam

  • Treat computers, art supplies, books and other equipment and educational tools with care and use them only for the work in which they are intended.
  • Follow all classroom procedures as explained by the Master Teacher and E-mentor.  These include, but are not limited to:
    1. sitting within camera view at all times
    2. abiding by your school’s Internet policies
    3. only working on projects that are class related

The consequences that will result from failure to abide by these policies are:

FIRST OFFENSE:

The students will be given a verbal warning and informed that his/her behavior is inappropriate.

SECOND OFFENSE:

The student will be informed that his/her behavior is inappropriate, and a letter explaining the incident will be sent to the parents/guardians through the student’s principal.  The parents will be informed that a repeat offense will result in loss of the privilege of participating in the course.

THIRD OFFENSE:

The student will be removed from the course permanently and will receive no credit for the class.

SEVERE MISCONDUCT:

This may result in immediate dismissal from the class and disciplinary action according to the local school district’s policies.

Because of the remote delivery of this instruction, by necessity, the local school district administrators and the on-site E-mentor have the ultimate responsibility for monitoring the student’s behavior and assuring their compliance with the district’s regulations and the above-stated behavior standards.

I understand that because of the technological nature of this course, participants and their interactions in the classroom will be recorded and archived for demonstration and for educational and institutional marketing purposes.  I will freely participate in and consent to these circumstances and all related policies.  I have read and I understand the above policy and agree to abide by the expectations and responsibilities as stated.
