Project Rubrics Art I

 

Continuous Line Maze Design

Grading:

                Part I      •Using only one line to fill the page appropriately will earn 8pts.

                •Using the correct number and size of shapes will be worth 2pts.

 

Part II     • Grade will be determined by the use of ROYGBV, intesity of color blends, and implied lines.

 

 

Parameters:

                Part I      •Place at least two geometric shapes and at least one organic shape on a 12” x 18” piece of paper.

                                • Shapes should have a total area of no more than 4”.

                                • The total number of shapes should not be more than six.

• Fill the rest of the paper with only one continuous line.

• The line cannot be interrupted, stopped, or crossed.

• The line should maintain approximately ½” or a pinky-space between every convolution of the line.

 

                 Part II     • When coloring your Continuous Line Maze Design you are to fill each line with color blends from red, to orange, to yellow, to green, to blue, to violet, to red, etc...

                                 • To blend the colors, start with a highly intense chroma then decrease the intensity as you work away from the starting point. Then using the next color, start with high intensity and decrease its intensity as you work toward the first color. Finally, use the brighter color to increase the intensity between the two chromas.  

 

Due Date:

Part I      •September 8 at the beginning of class.

Part II     •Wednesday September 15, 2010.

 

Purpose:

                Part I      The purpose of Part I of this project is to enable students to use the elements of art, line and shape, to create an artistic composition. Students will also be encouraged to experiment with composition, and will be able to express their ideas through the placement of the subjects.

                Part II     •The purpose of Part II is to allow students to master the skill of blending colors using chroma, intensity, and brightness. This is a keystone concept to future projects. Experience and mastery of changing the intensity of colors will be used in several Art I projects.

Paper Towers

Grading:

To earn a D, students must design a tower that is at least 18 inches tall.
To earn a C, students must design a tower that is at least 24 20 inches tall.
To earn a B, students must design a tower that is at least 36 24 inches tall.
An A will be given to the following towers:
    • at least 36 28 inches tall and the Tallest
    at least 36 28 inches tall with the least amount of paper
    at least 36 28 inches tall with the most interesting (determined by me) design
    at least 36 28 inches tall with the most complex (determined by me) design

 

Parameters:

The tower must be built on one of the provided platforms, and be transported to the extra table at the end of every class period. You may now create your tower at the display table, but be sure there is enough room that your peers will not damage yours when working on their own.
The tower cannot be built at the extra table, it must be created at one of the work tables.
• The tower must be standing on the due date.
Students must provide an accurate tally of the number of 3"x3" paper squares used.
Students may not use anything to build their towers except for their hands and the 3"x3" paper squares provided.
Students may bend, roll, tear, shred, or contort the 3"x3" paper squares in any manner desired.
Unused squares that have been damaged must be included in the final tally for the tower.
Workspaces left unclean at the end of the period will result in a lower grade for the offending group(s).
Intentional destruction of another group's tower will result in a grade of zero for the offender(s).
 

Purpose:

The main purpose of this project is to promote criticial thinking, and help students engage the right side of their brains. Using new materials in a new way is conducive to "thinking outside of the box," an invaluable ability for art students.
Additionally, the project promotes collaboration, discussion, planning, theorizing, and ingenuity. Students are encouraged to work in groups of two to develop ideas and plans to best construct the towers.
