 I assign HW Monday through Thursday, except on holidays.
Homework has two purposes: to help students practice skills we are
working on in class, and to help them develop good organizational and
time-management habits for future academic success.
Homework for a 5th grader should take about 50-70 minutes for the
average youngster. Some days there will be a little more; most days it
will be a little less. It is my intent to create a reasonable amount of
accountability while acknowledging the importance of downtime, family
life, and exercise.I suggest a generic schedule such as this:
20 minutes: read silently or with a partner
10-20 minutes: math worksheet
10-20 minutes: writing (or reading) worksheet
5-10 minutes: practice spelling words
