April 1st. Are you on the move?

posted Apr 1, 2010 7:35 AM by JaneAnne Tager

It's April 1st and what amazing weather we have! I hope we will all take the opportunity to get outside and move. Run ,walk, bike or maybe even dance.
Remember what they say about Ginger Rogers, " Ginger can do everything that Fred can do, only backwards and in heels!" No excuses for you.
Put on your heels and go,go,go. Happy April Fools!

Kick-off Spring with MoveAbout!

posted Mar 5, 2010 7:37 AM by Terri March   [ updated Mar 5, 2010 7:44 AM ]

My name is JaneAnne and I am this spring's Moveabout Coordinator! Moveabout's kickoff date is fast approaching, and is starting with the first day of Spring, Saturday March 20th and running until May 28th! Please turn in your companies registration form no later than Tuesday March 17, but if for some reason that is a problem let me know! (We will except registrations through Tuesday the 23rd.)  Instructions, registration forms and logs can be found by clicking Getting Started with MoveAbout .  The link is also found on the Navigation Bar on the left.
If you are don't know about the Moveabout program, it is a work site incentive program which encourage employees to incorporate physical activity into their daily routine. This doesn't necessarily mean "working out," but allows all types of activity to count. That includes walking your dog, mowing the lawn, playing with your kids, even exercising while watching TV! Basically anything that gets you and your co-workers consciously moving more for your health and happiness!

Our goal is to make activity a healthy habit, and we want to reach over a million minutes of total Buncombe county activity! We suggest each participant strive for 150 minutes of activity per week, and again, what counts as activity varies greatly (a list of ideas is provided in the Coordinator Manual).

What to do next? Identify someone in your workplace who can help encourage and motivate participants, as well as collect the logs and send them to me. Have the on-site coordinator contact me with the registration forms (on-line typed or signed is great) and we will get started!

The main point of this program is to have fun and realize that being active not only makes life more enjoyable, but also betters your health and hopefully your longevity!

Another goal this spring to is to as paperless as possible! If you are able, please email me the registration forms and well as your logs at the end of the program. If not, you can fax them to me at 250.6095 (attn: Terri March). Thanks for your cooperation!

We at Healthy Buncombe are more than happy to come visit your worksite and discuss the Moveabout program, as well as other ways to be healthy, in and out of the worksite. Feel free to email or call me anytime!

I look forward to hearing from you and your business... feel free to spread the news of Moveabout, whether it is your best friend or you neighboring business (competition can be fun!). At the end of the 10 weeks we will have a wrap up party with some great prizes... which I will tell you more about in the future.

Thanks so much! Let's get moving!!

Moveabout was the push she needed!

posted Apr 24, 2009 11:23 AM by Meghan Ibach

My husband and I had been debating whether joining a gym would be productive and financially smart since the closest one to our home, well, its not so close.  After I joined the program, we figured we would give it a try.  We joined a gym and I have been going weekly.  It is hard to find the time with two small children because I just want to see them after work.  However, we are still trying to figure out how  to best get our exercise because it gives us more energy to spend with them and it helps elevate my mood.  The Moveabout program was the little push we needed to take off!
Thanks Miriam

Moveabout is a success!
