Tales of a Mountain Betty

To live by...

Life is like a journey taken on a train

With a pair of travelers at each window pane

I may sit beside you all the journey through

Or I may sit elsewhere never knowing you

But should fate sit me by your side

Let's be pleasant travelers it's so short a ride

A Tribute to Kandie

~ my little dog that stood by my side for almost 15 years ~

She was there every morning keeping my morning runs fun and always providing companionship.  She was my pal when everyone else was working or too busy.  When I would ice climb, she learned to curl up on my backpack to stay warm.  One day I was climbing in Lee Vining and my backpack slid down the hill -- this is a long hill -- and Kandie ran all the way down the hill, curled up on the backpack, and waited for me to finish climbing.  Kandie loved the water, except the ocean, which was good for cooling the toes and that was it!  When she was about a year old, she was pummelled by a wave!  She hated Florida, but then who could blame her?  When we visited Lake Mead it was so hot I carried her on my shoulders with her front and rear paws drapped around my neck.  She was in Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks in the early 90's.  Her favorite kennel was just outside of Zion National Park, which was situated on the Virgin River and over 10 acres at least!  But boy she resented "vet" day--she never found a vet she liked!  For Kandie, her favorite day was waking up with me, going for a run and accompanying me to work.  If the day ended with a visit to Grandma's all the better for an afternoon swim!  She's the only dog I've ever known that could go mountain biking for 3 hours up and down the hills in the Santa Cruz mountains and 5 minutes later be ready for a run on the beach!

I will forever miss my little Kandie.
