It gives me great pleasure to share these resources with devotees of Srila Prabhupada from all over the world. When we are fortunate (by good association & by causeless mercy) to be convinced to take up the process of practising Krishna Consciousness (Bhakti Yoga), we find great joy in chanting Hare Krishna and in reading Srila Prabhupada's books. After some time, we may realize that we need to do something more to make factual progress... To become strong in our Krishna Consciousness we need to learn the transcendental art of how to perform Mangala-Arati! This will help strengthen us against the forces of Maya and begin trying to sacrifice our early morning sleep to worship the Lord and purify our body, senses and mind. Such a sincere endeavour can reform us from our materialistic consciousness of enjoyment and enhances our spiritual propensity to serve the Lord. When we have a strong urge to try and please Srila Prabhupada, Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga, it becomes easy to get up early and make the daily performance of mangala arati become our natural lifestyle. Once that happens, then our spiritual progress really begins! It is a most joyful experience and is proof of the scientific process of Bhakti Yoga. As the Father-Of-Bhakti-Yoga (title given to Srila Rupa Goswami by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu Himself) said in his greatest work The Nectar of Devotion (NOD) (sub-titled by Srila Prabhupada as 'The Complete Science of Bhakti Yoga') :- "Bhakti yoga is a science, and it begins with Sadhana." (sadhana means our fixed daily activities of devotional service, which we offer to Lord Krsna through Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga) Please study the BBT's online version of this book (which Srila Prabhupada once described as being 'the bible for practising Krishna Consciousness') at www.nectarofdevotion.com or through www.vedabase.net to know more about all aspects of Bhakti yoga - the goals, the processes, the levels of advancement, the offences to be avoided, the pitfalls, the things conducive to bhakti etc. etc. Taking up the daily process of Mangala is one of the best decisions a sadhaka can make in his life. Sometimes, however, someone may want to experience mangala-arati, but lives too far from a temple or an active congregation devotee. How may he learn the art? This website hopes to give you the resources to encourage and assist one in taking up the process, in the way that Srila Rupa Goswami Prabhupada intended bhakti to be practised. We hope that you may make great spiritual advancement and realize the joy and spirituality that mangala arati followed by concentrated japa early in the morning, can bring into our daily lives, no matter where in the world we may live. ------------------- You will find here on this site, downloadable .wma and .MP3 audio files (in minimum file sizes with 32 bit rate or 16 bit rate quality) which you can easily play from your computer or any common MP3 player which can play 32-bit tracks or 16-bit tracks. In case you are unable to play any of the tracks found on this site, please try playing it with this Windows Media Player Classic. -------------------- In this Kali yuga, there are many challenges we will face if we take up a spiritual process seriously. Maya will pose us many tests and obstacles to overcome. There will be many excuses and so-called 'reasons' to not get up early and worship the Lord. Let us pray for the strength to never succumb to maya and let us become determined to be absorbed in our daily practice of Mangala Arati, without fail, and thus earn the blessings of all our predecessor acharyas, who did so much tapasya for our benefit. Let us pray to always be attentive in the quality and the way in which we perform mangala arati, because if we let our guard down, it can become a mechanical, dry process, and then we shall not get the taste for performing Bhakti Yoga. When we are enthusiastic and introspective to see how we can improve the way we do this offering of praise and worship, then day by day, we shall reduce our offences and make tangible spiritual advancement. Sometimes, we feel hesitant to do Mangala Arati because we do not know the words or the tune to sing in. The audio recordings and downloadable text found on this site should help solve that problem and equip us with the tools needed to fight maya and take up this powerful service with determination! Not all of us have the fortune or the luxury of being near enough to an Iskcon temple to attend Mangal Arati there. It is very easy to take up the process with the recordings found here because it helps us manage our time and become steady in our sadhana! - all we need to do with the files below is to press the play button AT EXACTLY THE SAME TIME EVERY DAY. Explanation: How nice if we could just decide today like this: "Since it will please Srila Prabhupada and my spiritual masters very greatly if I reform myself and perform nice mangala arati daily, which will surely improve the quality of my japa session, I shall start doing it tomorrow!" How wonderful that would be. But then comes the reality of my dear Brother Mind. 'He' has already planned his revolt against the authority of your Buddhi (intellect) and it's determination! (Srila Prabhupada once said, "A symptom of a self realized man is he who can follow his own plan." !!! We all know there is what they call 'a steep learning curve' in the beginning - gita also says that things in the mode of goodness are like poison at first, but like nectar in the long run - so many things may obstruct us.. laziness, ignorance, ill discipline, lack of encouragement, not knowing the words, weakness of heart, emotional problems with other people/devotees, my own psychological and even biological hangups... etc etc etc. For many of us who have lost the normal agricultural life of getting up early automatically with the cock's crow (as Lord Krishna Himself did - see www.krsnabook.com), once we have decided we want to try to make it a daily habit, the hardest part is gaining stability.... so here are some Practical tips Just as the NOD and HNC (Harinama Cintamani - PDF soft copy here) indicate re. Japa**: One should initially take up the process of japa by fixing a small no. of rounds which one can easily maintain. This is common sense, isn't it? Because if we artificially try to 'do 16 rounds' prematurely because of peer pressure etc, then it becomes burdensome and our tongue and mind will never cooperate.... But if we do small doses of chanting, then once we acquire steadiness, a taste will awaken within our tongues (see NOI text 7) Srila Haridas Thakur recommends doing the japa in groups of 4 malas (called a granthi - once stabilized, that shd take exactly 7.5 mins per round = a 30-minutes' time commitment [Download these extremely useful japa aids - (a) Download 1 round japa recording with bell after 7.5 mins: .wma format or .mp3 format;
(b) Download japa recording of 4 rounds with bell every 7.5 mins: .wma format or .mp3 format; and (c) Download japa recording of 8 rounds with bell every 7.5 mins: .wma format or .mp3 format - These are extremely helpful tools for keeping us from sleeping during japa!!!]) By the way - Please see this brief slideshow - possibly one of the most important instructions ever given by Srila Prabhupada, the original guru of the Hare Krishna Movement - possibly one of the most overlooked and neglected instructions. If we all follow this one simple injunction, all purity and force will return to the greatest most badly needed mission of God Himself on this planet! Please Click Here The Above Slideshow is online at www.onlyonerecommendation.on.to
Once the TIME COMMITMENT becomes steady, one's intellect (buddhi) can become strong enough to convince the mind to sit down and shut up for just 30 mins - and if one tries to conquer Inattention (the mother of all offences, according to Nama Acharya Srila Haridas Thakur in the Harinama Cintamani by Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur) by using one of the 4 suggested remedies given by the Nama Acharya, namely to fix up the time slot and the exact place/seat where one sits to chant daily, then very quickly one will experience that the mind begins to enjoy the chanting sessions - then we can progress from forced-vaidhi bhakti to a hint of raaga-vaidhi-bhakti where we at least find some joy and taste peace and progress in our attachment to the rule of having to chant a fixed no. of rounds daily. So in the same way, it can apply to mangal arati. Okay. So for me it is not possible ever to do mangala arati at 4.30 am (so the mind likes to say). Alright. Don't confront the mind directly. Ask it what time it wants - 11 am? 10 am? 8.30 am? 6 am? 5 am? Whatever! then just nail it there! Let's say you decide i will start Mangala arati at 5.30 am daily. Great! With this tool, all you need to do is start the PLAY button of your MP3 player (connect big speakers to them, or play it thru your PC with your PC speakers turned up) at exactly the same time every day...... and i mean, every day - do it even if you are still in bed. Start playing it ON TIME even if you are caught up in the kitchen or in preparing the arati set, or in any thing whatsoever.... just get it to start on time... The trouble with us who may live at home is that we misuse our freedom in utilizing time... Let me illustrate- if i were in an iskcon temple guesthouse, and i wake up late, i may hear the conchshell blow and the devotees start singing "Samsara dava..." in the temple downstairs... I quickly rush out and take my bath, and with intelligence, i strain to hear the singing and singalong even tho' i am in the bath.. Then i rush to get dressed and run into the temple... I then JOIN IN THE PROGRAM at whichever point it may be at, and after ten or 15 mins, i may become so absorbed in it that i may not even realize that i had come in late - What i am trying to say is this - imagine a different scenario.... I walk in late while already tulasi puja is starting and shout to everyone, chief pujari included, and say, "Alright boys n girls, i'm sorry i was late, but now that i am here. can you pls start at Samsara dava again..." Would not such a puffed up and ridiculously unreasonable person deserve to be immediately beaten up by everyone else!!! (ha ha ha! i'm just joking, of course!!!) What is the truth to be learned from this in terms of time managememt? Simple: START ON TIME AND END ON TIME - THAT'S GREAT. BUTTTTT... IF YOU START LATE, QUICKLY CATCH UP AND STILL END ON TIME! THAT'S RIGHT. START LATE, OKAY, BUT END ON TIME!! Don't make the next item also become late - that would be a domino-effect, or more like an avalanche!! That means, even though one walked in late, he'd join in the Tulasi puja and then when everything ends, and the ALL IMPORTANT japa session begins after reciting the ten offences, one will be back on schedule - and thus the mind WILL cooperate at least as it did the day before, and therefore today's japa quality will be at least as good as yesterday's or maybe, with a little mercy, a little better. so how to apply this principle at home? if you get up late, never mind!!! just rush to your PC or MP3 player and make sure you start playing the below audio files on time!! _____________________________________________________

CREATING A PLAYLIST with Windows Media Player: First Select (highlight) all the tracks 01 to 05 (for Morning Service In Devotion Part 1)
Then right click them - and from the drop-down menu, click on 'Add to Playlist' What will happen is Windows Media Player will start and a Pop-Up window saying 'Add To Playlist' will appear. Click the button that says 'NEW' and then type a name eg. 'Morn Svc Pt 1' to name this new Playlist. How to open the new playlist named 'Morn Svc Pt 1'? Simple! Just open Windows Media Player. Then look at the top right corner - there will be a little window there which might say 'Now Playing'. Next to it is a little arrow for a drop-down menu. Click it and scroll down till you find the 'Morn Svc Pt 1' playlist which you just created (see the previous paragraph, please). Easy isnt' it. Why create playlists? IF you play one track at a time, it will become very tedious - you will have to keep going back to your computer every few mins. But with a playlist, you just play all the tracks at one time! (Troubleshooting - List is in the wrong sequence... Very often, Windows Media player will make the list of songs with the first song at the end instead of at the beginnnig.. Eg. YOU wish to have track 01, then 02, 03,05 & 05. But the playlist always shows 02, 03,04,05 and lastly 01. How to solve this? Just open the plalist as described above, then click the track 01 and drag it to the top of the list - re arrange the list in any order which you like - then click on File at the top left corner. From the 'File' menu, select 'Save Playlist' and now your playlist would have been modified permanently. (Use this method to add tracks, remove tracks or re arrange the order of tracks within any playlist. You can also click file and then choose 'Save Playlist As' and give it a new name if you wish to create a new playlist.) AVOID Playlists? If it is too difficult for you to use playlists, you may download the morning program in a single audio file: Morning Service Part 1 (mp3) or (wma) Morning Service Part 2 (mp3) And do remember: In case you are unable to play any of the tracks found on this site, please try playing it with this Windows Media Player Classic. May your life be ever-blessed with the true spiritualist's lifestyle of Mangala-arati! Srila Prabhupada ki... JAYA! Your humble servant, In service of Sri Guru, Srila Prabhupada, and Sri Gauranga, Dina Anukampana Das www.gitajayanti.org dina@gitajayanti.org Visit Gītā Jayanti International ----- * Some devotees gave the feedback that when they play one track at a time, they have to keep going back to the computer to play the next track - they did not know how to create a play list - therefore i have given the above step-by-step guide to help persons like them who may not be so comfortable with using computers.
