Writing for print and broadcast journalism is NOT the same thing. Broadcasters need a conversational tone to their writing, must write for the ear, and have only one chance to make their point understood.

My teaching philosophy, in a few sentences:

Students learn journalism by doing journalism;
My classroom is a newsroom, meaning my students are expected to show up for "work";
Journalists need to impress upon their audiences the context of every story;
The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution -- especially relating to Freedom of the Press -- is something not to be taken for granted.
