FAQ's

Q.  What is MOPS?

A.
MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers. MOPS International exists to meet the needs of every mom: urban, suburban and rural moms, stay-at-home and working moms, teen, single and married moms. MOPS meets the needs of moms with different lifestyles who all share a similar desire to be the very best moms they can be!

Q.  Why would I want to join VCB MOPS?
A.
MOPS gives you a chance to socialize with other moms who are experiencing the same mothering trials, tribulations and joys as you. We offer refreshment for your body, mind and soul. We have guest speakers, creative activities (nothing too complicated) and discussion time all relative to our theme, Together on Planet Mom. We also offer play dates,  Moms Nights Out and other activities throughout the year. These are optional and not part of the regular meetings but are a whole lot of fun!

Q.  My child isn't a preschooler yet.  Can I still join?
A.
Absolutely! We welcome expectant mothers as well as mothers with children 0 through kindergarten age. There are many options for paying the membership dues at VCB MOPS. The registration fee you pay covers the membership fee for MOPS International (this includes a subscription to MOMSense magazine, MOM e-mails and other benefits throughout the year) crafts, speakers, childcare and other costs associated with running the group. Membership dues are typically paid for on an annual or semester basis, but we are very flexible and will work with you to meet your financial needs. We want to serve mothers of preschoolers, so no one will ever be turned away from our meetings due to financial need. Please contact our Finance Coordinator for information about membership dues and scholarships.

Q.  Where is my child(ren) while I am in the meeting?
A.
Children are cared for by the wonderful and qualified volunteers and staff of the MOPPETS program. Should a problem arise with your child, a staff member will come and get you (or you will get a beeper for nursery).

Q.   Can I keep my child with me?
A.
Out of consideration for all moms attending, we ask that children 5 months and older be placed in the nursery. (Older infants who are still nursing can be brought in for feedings.) This is not only for the safety of the children, but also helps us in our goal of encouraging moms to have time for themselves during the meetings.  The children will be in classrooms according to their age downstairs while moms are upstairs.
