Content Generalizations & Learning Targets

·         Generalization - Students will understand that caring for others involves identifying and understanding their own and others’ feelings, taking on others’ perspectives, and responding empathically to others through acts of compassion.

·         Generalization - Students will understand that showing others you care about them involves listening, sharing, being willing to help, being kind, and using nice words.

·         Generalization - Students will understand that showing others you care about them often requires being brave, being persistent, taking helpful action, and sticking up for what you believe is right.

·         Skill/Process - Students will be able to make text-to-self connections to help them relate to the characters in a story, identify and understand the characters’ feelings, and view the world from the characters’ perspectives.

·         Skill/Process - Students will be able to identify, summarize, and explain important events from the text to help them identify ways that characters show they care. 

·         Skill/Process - Students will be able to identify similarities between characters in different stories to help them understand that despite our differences, we all experience similar feelings and we all have something special to offer.
